I am having build jitters for a april build. Plan was an ab1… but thinking ab2 for the tone chambers (for unplugged resonance mainly). But i want a wenge neck and i recall walnut is not advised. Are alder or ash bodies an option for a ab2? I will be painting it solid.

Had a first jam with metal band that just hired me. I setup an NG3 in A standard and off I went. I'm just blown by the clarity of the lowest string, in this case A. I haven't played metal or chunky stuff in almost 15 years, but man does it sound good with the Dingwall.
Anyone put FDV's in their NG? A 3x set of SF2'S just landed for me at Fret Nation - I want to put those in Moby and move the FDV's to an NG. Good or bad idea?

i heard wind that a (now ex) employee may have flubbed some orders and thus build dates. But i take it all with a grain of salt.

Don't think you're going to get acoustic guitar resonance unplugged. But it does add an acoustic air to the sound. Walnut not advised? Is it even an option? Because I love my walnut necked AB2.
Not mine, but you Canadians near Toronto might want to poke around on Kiiji if you're looking for a Dingwall. Some good deals there.

I own an ABII and am very satisfied.
Mine is Walnut body and Wenge neck.
The tones are spectacular… not sure how much the chambered body contributes, since I don’t own an ABI.
I’m sure that a walnut neck would be great but I didn’t it was an option.
Most of my basses are Wenge currently so that would be my choice.
As a recommendation … if you are asking… I would definitely get ABII.
I play it quite a bit unamplified and sounds great .

I believe walnut is the stock body wood on an AB2. Walnut was discontinued for a neck materials a while back. Ovangkol would be the next substitute for it. Wenge is always amazing for the neck wood.
I’m not sure it’s been commonly done that you can substitute body wood on the AB2. I believe that black limba may be the only body wood substitution option on an AB2.

yes it is a mid shift.
Man, the amount of different combinations you can get from this is crazy.
Not gonna lie saying I wish it had a 3rd pickup closer to the neck- may reach out to Dingwall after a bit and see if I can get a the Sklar neck pickup for it, and have it installed.
All this recent talk has me curious what a Dingwall with a graphite neck would sound and feel like. I'd almost be surprised if Sheldon and crew didn't at least give it some thought at one point or another.
My experience with Graphite necks didn’t leave me wanting more. I had a Fretless Modulus Quantum 5 and I couldn’t sell it fast enough. The harmonics of the notes were just plain weird/off to my ears.
not acoustic… but imho semi hollow bodied instruments can have a nice sound unplugged vs a solid body equivalent. That is an appealing feature to me noodling on the couch when i am too lazy to get headphones. But no expectation of doing an unplugged set with it.
Heck… my jazz bass with the metal pickup covers even has a nice “acoustic” resonance.
The walnut thing… i think there was something about contrasting body/neck woods that sheldon often advises as a good sonic pairing. But let me be clear… 100% i want wenge for my neck cause it looks so nice!
