It's been two years since I did it, but I swapped the 3n's in my NG-2 for FDV pickups. I like them, especially with nickel rounds.

I follow Periphery's content pretty closely, embarrassingly. I remember being confused about this as well but he did a couple live Q&As that only had a few dozen participants for some reason and I pelted him with everything I had lol.
That's a regular old NG2 that he's playing here. It's not even too old given the round shells. He highlighted the fact that the NG2s are routed for the third pickup and that he asked Dingwall to send him a different pickguard to accommodate the neck-gap-bridge spacing like we see here. (Realizing a lot of this was actually in a SBL course he did, but you get it) He said he had been experimenting with moving the middle pickup to the neck position and using the pickups in parallel. He added that the bass sounded great in passive using this pickup combo. I got the sense he had been out of the super heavy world of prog metal and producing other genres for a bit, and the active bridge-middle in series wasn't so great outside of the periphery's style. That's at least how I remember it.
I think since he has several NGs in his possession he just keeps this one with the pickups in this layout for variety.
Has anyone else noticed this trend where heavy dingwall folks are migrating from series to parallel? I'm thinking of Jacob Umansky, Rufus Mann etc.
That's funny, before reading this I made up my mind that I like position 3 in passive mode the best on my NG3. (Bridge+Neck in parallel). It must obviously sound really good.
Hmmm… i just think people get tired of the same thing after a while. And i am sure there was an army of guys with ng’s with a darkglass b3k mimicking nolly. You kind of need to stay ahead of the curve. Plus nolly developed a sound to support peripheries sound. Every band has a different voicing opportunity for a bass imho.
I know after my ab1 5, and ab2 6er… I will probably look at a super j or super p. I play a lot of stuff from modern prog metal, to 9’s alternative, to classic rock, to Motown. It is nice to have variety. And aside from a p style bass… i believe there is no one best solution.

i prefer series… but i enjoy the other settings also. But some settings are just really good for a mix. Back to the old concept that what sounds amazing solo… may not do as well in a mix.
Shape, and also i believe thickness. The ab models have a deeper cutaway and a nice crescent flow from behind. The larger horn i do not think it longer on the ab… rather the cutaway at the neck is deeper.
it was something i thought i saw… but was never sure until i really took the time to look.

We don't really stock Canadian Dingwalls, however we are the #1 go-to place in the world for custom orders. The state of the world today combined with the impeccable QC and build quality of those basses means they have a significantly long wait time.
yeah, it is hot and a yellow six was on my shortlist of colours for my custom build. But i just scored a used yellow 5er so that is settled. So my current shortlist is aqua, green, or a beige gold metallic.
it is actually nolly getgoods bass. And the bass that made me fall in love with dingwall. I just love the striking colour, contrasting wenge neck, lines and simplicity.

Not sure. One was shared on the facebook marketplace to here this fall. I lost out, but the buyer realized it was not for him… and contacted me this weekend cause he knew i lost out. It was very appreciated. It should be in my hands friday assuming no shipping delays.
No same bass. I did not realize it was listed. Lol. Good i moved quick.
It has been on tb march 2021, facebook marketplace fall 2021… and tb now. I think i found it on tb classifieds in 2018 also… just trying to confirm. The 2018-2021 owner loved and played it until he got a sweet fancy wood custom ab1. A unfortunate guitar falling accident caused a few dings including the neck under his ownership.
Next owner played it/gigged it (regrets selling) but needed cash this fall. Last owner just did not find the tone was a fit for him. Given how much i love my ng and yellow/wenge… this will be a keeper.

2022: New job, the occasional gig, five new tracks recorded this past weekend (just silly almost-grandpa-band stuff), and hopefully the new Dingwall will arrive (12.5 months so far), so things are looking up. Well, apart from a friend just being diagnosed with dementia.
That bass better arrive while I'm still coherent! (Wife of 30 years: "too late.")
