I mean, if you're just saying one has more output than the other, then that comes down to strings (to an extent, more mids will be perceived as "louder"), play style, setup. But, I mean, different basses sound different, too. If you're in the "All 3" setting on a D-Roc, that's going to sound just a wee bit different than N+B in parallel on an NG. There's so many factors, I'm not even sure I understand why the two are being compared.

I'm also not really needing "explained" what a preamp is and does... been around the block more than a handful of times, including my own circuit designs (and failures) along the way.

Also add the the pickups are probably in different spots. I measured my old D-Bird and they were about 1/2” closer to the neck if I remember correctly. I doubt they changed it on the D-Roc

Eh not so much, this the second bass I’ve had with a TC. I’m very familiar with it. But again remember what I said. This is with all EQ options dead center…not engaged in anyway.
Yes, I know. I'm very familiar with it. It absolutely adds color even at center detents. Pretty much everyone else in this thread has agreed on that fact as well, and I'm pretty sure someone did waterfall graphs proving it out at one point. It's not massive, but, it's there. The glock is extremely neutral at center detents, though.

I have the TC in my EHB and dead center isn't the way. I can't stand when I see videos comparing on board preamps with poopie flat. *** IS THE POINT?!??!!

well here
Both basses had the same strings.
Both basses plugged into a Bergantino Forte Head and a DG 500 head. Same bass cabs as well. Same cables. Both finger and picks were used.
Same songs were played. What I did on one I did to the other. This is the only way to gauge something correctly.
And again tones sound different per ear. And I’ve been around the block myself, 18 years been playing. I’ve learned a few things myself. I’m just new to Dingwall basses. my questions were simple. If I can explain them clearer I can just let me know where, I do want to learn on it hence the questions :)

For the lo-Z signal, which has quite a lot of benefits (and, of course, potential drawbacks).
In the mix I have alot of reservations on the minutia of tone.

Is anyone going to tell Sklar he has the wrong pre amp in his bass? Or that he should have used his dingwall instead of the franken P? I'm curious if anyone could distinguish pre DW sklar from post DW sklar. Didn't he write and record his hits before he ever met Sheldon?

One thing I haven’t seen you describe is where you had the pickup selector for each. They are very different setups. Only position one, all else being ruled out (and I’m curious about the pickup positions, as mentioned earlier) is the same between them.

I think I lost track of the conversation here. You asked why folks want a neutral preamp, and I gave you an example. What Mr. Sklar does and chooses is for him, and, obviously he's successful beyond everyone on this forum combined. What he prefers and what I prefer are different, but, that's why there's so many options out there.

Well both basses are passive so most of what I tried was with passive sígnal let me say that. I know that they are wired differently. That’s part of my question. If I wired it the same as a Droc would the tone be similar ?

Unlikely since the pickup placement is different (relative to the bridge), per @Waltsdog (I've only played D-Rocs and NGs, never busted out the ruler)

I didn’t ask anything at all about the active or passiveness of the bass. Do you know what selector position or positions you had each in?
