How so when the volume was the same on both basses I didnt adjust volume of one over the other. What I did to one volume wise, I did to the other…there’s nothing to perceive. It is what it is.
Do you have an older NG? some of the pickups might be wired parallel which would explain your volume differences. The newer ones are all series I believe.
If you wanna just go nuts swap the pickups in the NG and D-Roc and the switch. That way you can really see if that changes things.
My 2021 NG3 has the middle in series, the bridge and neck in parallel.
Someday, I might try installing series parallel toggles, but I’ll have to do it with individual switches (no room for the Dingwall 3x s/p board).

Give the bridge a try in series, it makes a world of difference IMO. I find the bridge solo in parallel is kinda weedy and useless.
That said I almost never use the bridge pickup in any of my basses anyway
Well the NG is brand new, just got it last week. The Droc belongs to a buddy he got his about 2 weeks ago. I was told the pickups are wired as per standard Dingwall specs.
Do you think the pickups are different ? I know the position switches are but I’m wondering if the pups are the same.
No I’m pretty sure the pickups are identical, but your NG might have the bridge in parallel (look in the back and see if you have 2 or 4 wires connected from that pickup basically, 2 is series).
Specifically which settings are you comparing?
As you can see from previous posts the pickups on the 2 basses are in different spots so they will sound slightly different but they should be relatively similar in volume depending very much on where you have the switches and how the pickups are wired.
well I sat for over 2 hours slowly going through each option on each bass. Like I tried one setting on one bass then the same on the other bass. For example
Switch 1 on the NG, then switch 1 in the Droc then so forth. I hope this answers your question.
Excellent suggestion. I was wondering if the same model pickups might be wired differently. It’s time to pull off the control cavity cover and have a look in the NG.
I haven’t tried a side by side with my AB-1 and Dbird, but when I plug in the Dbird, I’m usually quick to adjust my volume down on my practice setup. It seems to be super hot.
I’ll have a bit of time this weekend to try the three, AB-1, Dbird and Super P. And I’ll take a peek under the hood. I have yet open up the Dbird.

Well only 1 of those setting is the same in both basses and that’s the bridge. If your bridge quieter it’s probably just wired parallel.

I still dearly wish I hadn’t encountered quite a large volume jump in the MB position when I swapped the middle and bridge on the 3x switch. Those FD3n pickups are super hot and mine were definitely wired differently in the D-Bird vs a Combustion & ABZ.
So, the full switch position breakdown is:
NG3
Pos1, series bridge pickup
Pos2, series bridge and parallel middle, wired in series
Pos3, series bridge and series neck, wired in parallel
Pos 4, series neck pickup
D-Roc
Pos1, series bridge pickup
Pos2, series bridge and series middle, wired in parallel
Pos3, series middle pickup
Pos4, series bridge and series middle, wired in parallel, then in series with parallel neck.
Along with the D-Roc pickups all being somewhere over a centimeter closer to the neck.
All adding up to NOTHING being remotely wired the same between them, except for position 1, and even that’s in a little different a position.

I'm curious as well, as that is definitely the kind of info that should have been with my NG3 upgrade kit. When I evaluated adding the third pickup I didn't swap the existing neck(middle) and bridge, and didn't set the new middle as parallel. I ended up reverting to an NG2 as I didn't like the change. Although I'm now running a pair of FDVs in my NG2, so not sure if it applies at all anymore.
