Dingwall Owners Club

I've only had two basses with series parallel options and I never liked the series. It always seemed to add way too much and would need to turn my volume down, just seemed to defeat the purpose.
I'm with you except for using bridge and neck FDVs in parallel. In that configuration I prefer the neck pickup's coils to be in series which seems to mitigate a bit of the mid cut associated with that pair in parallel while not losing the top end sparkle of the bridge pickup. Other than that one exception I prefer parallel for everything else.

Volume changes can be fine. Even with my Axe-Fx II and/or AX8 setups, I never bothered to adjust things for volume changes due to pickup selection. It sounds like that doesn't work for everyone though!

If I were trying to adjust things like that though, I wouldn't boost the other options - I'd bring down the higher output one.

Bad pic, can’t see much of the beauty of the bass, but here I am 10 years ago after getting my first ABZ5. Took all of 5 minutes to know I was a Dingwall convert for life.

It’s midnight blueburst with the original rectangle FD3 pickups, passive, and it was less than 8 lbs. I traded it for an ABZ6 a couple years later.

I had a similar experience with them.

Their website pictures were much more favorable than the bass actually was in person.

Packed underwhelmingly.

Strings were old and the set up was total trash.

Not to jump on the bandwagon but one I ordered had a very light box that was tore almost in half in the centre when I received it...the bass was ok thankfully.

Here is my new D-roc standard 5. It came with the glow in the dark side dots which are not mentioned anywhere on the official website nor have I seen another one (standard version) with this feature.
Any info would help to solve this mistery. :)

It's a free bonus on the D-Roc Standard 5's

I love the Luminlay glow in the dark markers. So much fun. It's an easy and inexpensive mod if you want to do the same on other basses or guitars.

You can see the whole line at the Luminlay web site. I did my AB-1 six string for about $35 for the Luminlay rod and the little led light to charge them up. You don't need the little light, any light will do. The whole thing, from start to finish, including a string string change and a bit of fret dressing took less than two hours. Super easy, just need a drill and a tiny tube of super glue.

if you play enough of something new, wether it be a thin neck or high chording or just grinding a riff way down low on a phat six string your hand is gonna go, “WTH are you doing to me?!”

just work slow and methodically as these strains arise and stretch lots. As mentioned, practice! I’ve experienced this thumb pain previously. I don’t recall the transition but it was what you’ve described. I also beat the crap out of my hands at work exacerbating some issues and have become a little more mindful of the abuse.

one technique that may open up other strains but help this one is practice simple tapping exercises. It’ll focus your energy in that hand pushing on the fretboard vs the back of the neck

Thing is, when I started playing the Sklar, my hand was complaining (but not my thumb). Until one day I "just played it" and it felt ok and I realized I was wrapping my thumb. I never had pain playing on my ABs until recently, but perhaps with more practice on the Sklar, now my hands are transitioning to the AB. I will try these exercises and probably start mixing in the AB during practice.

Time does fly when you're having fun - it'll be fifteen years this fall since my 'conversion' bass made me realize that Dingwall instruments are in a class of their own. Passive 2007 AB-I (with bluecube mid-cut), Indigoburst over alder, eight pounds even (now owned by one of our club members)...

Maybe it’s something in your diet. Lol.

I steer clear of potato’s and peppers these days.
