Well I'll be... DR Black Beauties 40-120 fit. Even with the hipshot saddle which the ball sits back even farther than on stock.
Your D-Roc (4 string) is 36.25” on the E string. That’s roughly bridge saddle to nut. Strings that are 38” ball end to taper (or silk) means you have 1 3/4” extra length so it should fit. It may not fit properly on a 37” B string on 5 string, though. I have Dingwall steels on my AB1 and I love them. I recommend just getting Dingwall or Payson strings next time.
Yeah that’s almost too close for comfort. Definitely wouldn’t work on a 37” B string.
For most brands, “long scale” is not long enough for any Dingwall. You have to get extra long scale or something like that.
But for DR you can just get their regular strings off the shelf and it’ll be a good fit for your D-Roc 4.
I’m actually going to try out the Lo-Riders 50-110 on my NG-3.
But if he has the stock bridge that taper would be closer to the post. And he's on a 4 string I think.
My experience with DR strings: the E will just, barely, make it over the nut. I’ve used lots of Pure Blues, Lowriders, ect.

Would a 36.5 fit ? Sorry for asking so many questions this long scale things is new to me
I highly doubt it. Look at the pictures Nuage420 posted above. That’s a 38” ball to taper DR black beauty string and the taper barely clears the nut. Granted, he has after market bridge saddles that are a little larger so more string is on the bridge, but I wouldn’t even think about anything under 38”.
Technically, it’s not as new as you might think. “Long scale” is anything over 32” (which is considered medium scale). Most basses (like your Spector, Ps, Js, etc) are 34” “Long scale”. They are designed to fit long scale strings. Your G string on your Dingwall is 34” (same as all your other basses), it’s just that the other strings are longer bridge to nut. Technically anything over 34” scale is “extra long scale” so a lot of 5 strings that are 35” scale are technically extra long scale. Remember, scale length is bridge to nut.
I haven’t had my D Roc very long, so I’m still using the Dingwall Nickels that it came with, which I do like very much. I’m also mostly playing E standard (4 banger), sometimes drop D.

Good to know, thanks! That's a pretty big commitment though, for (1) Strings I've never tried before, and (2) Someone who changes their strings like 3 times a year.
