Just got word that my refin is done, thought I'd drop a few pictures he sent me of the process since they are Dingwall related and I thought they were neat. Here's the finish removal and down to wood.

And the finished body, this is under heavy work lights. It won't be this vibrant in person normally.

Excited to get this thing back again and wired up, after playing on cheaper 4 string basses for a while now I'm ready to go back.

I love the feel of a silky smooth satin finish. I remember trying to get an older Stingray 5 neck finished in it and the luthier at the time said it wouldn't adhere. I wonder if it would be the same with the SJ, short of sanding it down a bit, which I would need anyway to remove the ridges in the skunk stripes (early model when they put the carbon strips and then filled them in with walnut).

I wouldn't want to be feeling the ridges. I'd be breaking out the sanding block, but that's persnickety old me. ;)

I like the all in, I love the middle solo, the bridge middle I really like too. If that's all I had I would be satisfied. The bridge solo though is just not my thing so I figured if it could be neck and bridge then I'm a happy clam.

Because of the very compact way the switch is wired[1] , changing a single setting like this isn't possible by hacking the switch. People have flipped around the pickups, but that affects every setting with those pickup.

[1]. Specifically it doesn't act like a simple wiper to all possible inputs, the wiring is much more fancy, but elegant if you enjoy circuit minimisation.

Dang, oh well. I guess I'll just have to order one from fretnation.
