Dingwall Owners Club

Gotcha, I am a fanatic of the 37" B. Another option would be a passive Canadian made Similar to the one I've been patiently waiting for. They pop up from time to time and usually fairly affordable.

Payson makes a great set of flats for these things.Payson Fanned Flats Fanned Fret, Bass Strings, Multi-Scale Strings, Ibanez, Spector, Dingwall (paysonbass.com)

Patience is not one of my strong points. So you can even get flatwounds for these things! Well that clinches it, I’ll be in the owner’s club soon. As much as I rail about this modern world, the internet is pretty cool sometimes. Back in the Cretaceous era, I bought a 4001 (blame Chris Squire) and hated it. At that time I didn’t even know flatwounds existed. I only knew what was in the local music store.
Now that I know there’s a place to buy Dingwalls fairly close, it takes the onus off of snagging the DRoc for sale here before it disappears. Maybe I’ll see if he’ll take less $$. Regardless, I’ll get one fairly soon.

That was mine! I traded it towards my Dingwall order but have had some regret, that thing was so nice. I think he just sold it though.

Oh wow, really? That thing is amazing. I came very close to buying it but had just ordered an Adamovic, so didn’t want to spend anymore cash. I did end up getting a D-Roc a few weeks later , lol, couldn’t control myself.

No problem at all. Overall length of the screw is 23 mm, the threaded part of the screw measuring 16 mm.

Thanks for the tip! Had to go a little further than 16mm to get enough adjustment for a whole step but it's all good and I'm rocking and rolling.

For those following my Bass Direct story, Mark from Bass Direct has offered a few sets of strings as compensation for my scuffed gig bag and poorly packed shipment.

I might be irritated enough to just return this bass, even though I really want it.

If anyone wants to sell me a 6 string Afterburner, hit me up!

Jason at Fretnation can help you out with flats that will fit Dingwalls. He’s mixed sets of TI flats in different lengths got my longscale Dingwalls.

Payson flats sound great on the Dbird. No problem getting retro tones.

You won’t even notice the fanned frets after a short period. Getting used to a B string is a different story. I liked E-C better.

Now that I've really had some solid gig hours with the mods completed, I'm even more sold on Dingwall. The SF2'S kill for reggae. The Wenge neck is just outstanding. I wish you all could hear this bass.

I managed to score a set of unopened Payson Groundwound Flats recently. I really like the light gauge flats, I absolutely love the groundwounds. The tone, the gauge, the feel.. just perfect for Moby.

recent gig shot... yeah I'm feeling it.

I’m considering parting with my Roc Standard 5 in aqua. I love the bass but I just can’t get the tonal focus I want….almost like there’s a low-mid frequency missing….possibly because there’s so much of everything else.
I short I think it boils down to me thinking I could tame the beast and not being successful as of yet.
I’m considering an electronics/pickup change but haven’t plunged into options yet…not a ton of time recently. Of anyone has any ideas or possible a Super P 5 I could trade-up on I’d love to hear about them/it.

Have you tried some different strings?

I have not.
I’ve been through so many sets of Payson and Dingwall nickels and SS over the years I feel like I have a pretty good handle on what they bring….it doesn’t “feel” like something that would make enough of a difference…..HOWEVER….

…that’s a fantastic point and I’ll do it and report back. You never know!

I’m assuming your rocking Dingwall nickels right now?

I’m not sure what to offer up as a suggestion either. Maybe some Payson med lights?

maybe some SF2 pick ups?

good luck

Yep, still have the nickels on there. I’ve got a set of the Medium Lights here, definitely worth sacrificing to science with an open mind.
Ill look into the SF2’s.

Thanks!
