Dingwall Owners Club

Got my Neck Illusions in today.. the Jade might be a touch bright. I'm debating those ones, lol. IMO these go great on the black NG. Black with Lime swirl in Matte.

Why not just Leave the middle pickup in place but not connect it if you don’t want it?

To me it won’t look right. No point in having it there if it’s not being used.
Leave the middle pup in and call it a “dummy coil”.
There, I fixed it for you…now it’s being used:D

I'm just an old guy, late to the party, etc. I have some Paysons coming for my NG3-6. What is it about the Kaliums that make it a brand to try. I checked their website. Is it correct that they have a plain bass string .016" in the six string set?

This will be my first time trying them.

I also have some coming from Curt Mangan. They were my go to before using Dingwalls.

The heaviest gauge they currently do is a 145.

I bought a bass that came with a few 5string sets. I set one set up on it and didn’t love the tension at all… I don’t recall what gauges. I have one set left and can confirm what they are in a bit.

there is a But….

I decided to try tuning down 1/2 step… they came alive.
The tension was great, the strings sounded and felt great. The bass sold and I didn’t get to experiment much longer but I really enjoyed them tuned down. That said, I’ve been very satisfied with Paysons and he’s top notch to deal with.
Having no dealings with Kallium I cannot say. I’ve not heard great things about CS but hopefully that’s not the case for those who try them. Looking forward to reviews

So I ordered the Nordstrand Big Single 4 pups. Now i know You should order 3. Two Neck and 1 bridge or I’ve read some people order 1 neck and 2 bridge. But I went with the 1 bridge 1 Neck.
So now you ask well the Droc has 3 pups what are you going to do with the gap, why didn’t you order the 3rd pup. Well that’s simple I want to try two pups Thunderbird style. Now you say well you are gonna have a gap.
Well I ordered an NG2 pickguard months back when I had an NG3. I sold It and got my Droc. Now some may think I’m crazy and that’s ok ;)…I’m going to cut the same shape of a pickup out of the Carbon Fiber Pickguard. I work I’ve got access to a Vehicle Maint Body shop with a precise cutter. I will etch out the shape of a Dingwall pup just slightly bigger. This will be placed between both pups (it will be placed If I’m really liking the sound of the two pups, if not I’ll order the 3rd pup). But it will be placed between both pups. So it’ll be
Neck pup
Carbon Fiber pickguard
Bridge pup
am I committing some kind of sacrilege maybe but one doesn’t get what one wants without taking chances :D. Once this is all done I’ll post pics.

Oh and YES the pups do fit. View attachment 4662932
Are you gonna make covers for the square shell or some kind of pick guard to go around them?

I’m going to use it to cover the gap if I dont want a pup in the middle. It’ll cover the gap. I’m going to cut it in the shape of a pup and it’ll cover that area :)

I’ve used both, both strings are great tension wise. I got the steel standard gauge for both. It seems like the Kalium are brighter than the Payson strings. But both are excellent choices. Kalium had great customer service. One of their strings came bent. This wasn’t their fault UPS didn’t care for the package we all know how that can be. I contacted them over it, they immediately sent out a fresh set and I got them 2 days later.

Does anybody here know the factory pickup height for a PJ? I dropped mine but didn't note where it started and am just curious for comparison sake.
It's probably similar to what Sheldon shows on the Combustion/NG from his setup videos.

Whenever I make pickup or saddle adjustments, I go in increments of 180 degree rotations of the wrench. I keep track of how many rotations I make so that if I don't like it, I can go back.

Same here. But I adjusted a few times over a few days and lost track.
Not to be that guy, but just use your ears. If you need to know, make notes while you're making adjustments. Anything setup related can obviously be measured, but at the end of the day, it's about Feel and Tone.

I’ll see if I can measure mine later. I haven’t touched the pickup height since it was delivered
