I ordered a set of Kalium strings the other day.

Then I searched on TalkBass and saw a bunch of negative posts about their service.

Fortunately, it's been good. Skip emailed me yesterday. I ordered the extra long scale, but for them that means 40". So he just wanted to verify I was getting the right strings.

He corrected the order and they're on the way.

I ordered from them too and it was great service !

If you want to shorten the transition/adaptation, don't even pick up your four-string for a while.

That’s the plan, but I have a real gig in two weeks. I don’t know if I’ll be ready to take out the Dingwall debutant by then. But I’ve been playing along with that band’s tunes and already I’m finding different ways of doing things, which was the idea after all. I suppose it’s like the proverbial riding a bicycle, but I’m afraid I’ll be going for the nonexistent string on a 4 string

I won't be putting the stock pickups back in, how's that? I did these 'swaps' (with help from Dingwall and Nordstrand) after Sheldon came out with the FDV's. I was very curious to hear AlNico pickups in my Dingwalls. I like them very much.

I prefer Alnico style pups they have a certain tone IMHO that just pops.

SF2s and a new 6 way switch are in bound.

I changed up the switch a little. I never used neck or bridge solo.

My top bases at the moment. Swapping to straight frets four string short scale was intimidating at first, but i should let everyone know the transition is easy. Dont let the intimidation factor prevent you from trying a short scale, mono scale four string.

Funny you say that. For me trying a parallel fret instrument again after a solid month or so of only using my NG3 was my downfall. Immediately knew I had to get back to regular, boring, old monoscale. It was a nudge I didn’t want or need!

I do love my Cirrus, the only “straight” bass I own. It’s got it’s own great sound. But all the compromises of a single 35” scale are there.

Long reach to the first fret, because they didn’t move the bridge all the way to the end of the body…kind of thin sounding G…a bit more uneven volume across the neck….just little stuff I wouldn’t notice that much if I hadn’t been playing Dingwalls for the 13 years…

The Cirrus hangs in there. Fits right in with the AB-1 and longscale Dingwalls.

Fair enough. I have 4, 5, soon to be six string. 30 inch, 33.75 inch, 34, 37, narrow string spacing, standard string spacing, fanned frets, non fanned. I guess i dont allow myself to get too comfortable on any one thing.

i enjoy them all, and my dingwall does make the rest feel easier for reach… but nothing feels/plays/sounds as good as my dingwall imho.

but for writing and just jamming on the couch with a pick… the 4005xc is perfect.

why can’t the switch on it be used for that ? It’s got 4 options which would fit
Series neck position-1
Series middle position-2
Series bridge position-3
Series Neck/Bridge position-4

How so? To me it was just how the pickups were wired and what position I wanted each individual pick up on the switch.

Each pickup needs to be wired in series or parallel (they are all split coils). Along with that, whenever multiple pickups are used at the same time they need to be wired to each other in series or parallel.

Yeah that I know and remember from our last convo where you guys showed me how to make it work and I did . I’m just not sure what the last guy was referring to.

I had no idea this was contagious, but I've given a friend D.A.S... he has it bad. He has been playing Carvin basses for years and I let him try one of my NG3's. The reaction was very similar to my first trip down Dingwall Lane.. hesitation, a little bit of the "new kid in school" feeling, the realization you really like fanned frets, and then the pure joy of playing. He didn't even plug it in and he was hooked.

I love the neck on the AB2, but that NG/Combustion neck might be the most comfortable "production" neck I've ever played. @Sheldon D. - you really nailed these basses. I know I'm late to the party, but better late than never!

So I ordered the Nordstrand Big Single 4 pups. Now i know You should order 3. Two Neck and 1 bridge or I’ve read some people order 1 neck and 2 bridge. But I went with the 1 bridge 1 Neck.
So now you ask well the Droc has 3 pups what are you going to do with the gap, why didn’t you order the 3rd pup. Well that’s simple I want to try two pups Thunderbird style. Now you say well you are gonna have a gap.
Well I ordered an NG2 pickguard months back when I had an NG3. I sold It and got my Droc. Now some may think I’m crazy and that’s ok …I’m going to cut the same shape of a pickup out of the Carbon Fiber Pickguard. I work I’ve got access to a Vehicle Maint Body shop with a precise cutter. I will etch out the shape of a Dingwall pup just slightly bigger. This will be placed between both pups (it will be placed If I’m really liking the sound of the two pups, if not I’ll order the 3rd pup). But it will be placed between both pups. So it’ll be
Neck pup
Carbon Fiber pickguard
Bridge pup

am I committing some kind of sacrilege maybe but one doesn’t get what one wants without taking chances . Once this is all done I’ll post pics.

Oh and YES the pups do fit.

Why not just Leave the middle pickup in place but not connect it if you don’t want it?
