Doubt it.
Sheldon’s a smart man putting out the best products he can for the best price possible.
Bare in mind the cost of shipping alone has gone up exorbitantly in the past 2 years. I’m surprised the prices haven’t risen to match. Inflation about to go nuts.
The cost difference could very well be 1 hr of lost wages for one guy per unit. That equates to the Canadian set up inspection… or less.

bare in mind there are 3 levels of shipping on each bass. Of course you pay the last one in addition to bass purchase but the other 2 you don’t see

This reminds me of a business I used to work for. We sold MAD units, we were near the top of our industry - but our profit level was absolute crap because the raw material had to go through two hands before we could sell it. The second hand was the actual creator of the product, we were using his design. He not only took a huge chunk since we were using his design, but he was adamant that his team did that final step.

On.... Every.... Piece... :facepalm: :roflmao:

Hadn't considered the extra steps there and back of the materials.
And I definitely understand the quality of the instrument and the QC they recieve is top flight. I see a lot of B stock pop up and knowing the limited number they produce that tells me they don't let things slide.

And we don’t want to talk about the cost of heating a shop in Saskatoon in the winter time!!!! :facepalm:

The price of shipping has gone up 2 or 3 times what it once was. The price of materials has also skyrocketed. The QC from the factory is already better than most imports, and then they go to Canada and get a full fretjob and setup. They get a really nice gigbag and a full toolset (obviously allen wrenches are cheap, but still). Then, they have to ship out to the dealers.

Consider this tidbit of information from Rondomusic, importer of notoriously cheap instruments.

They go on to mention the huge spike in fuel costs, as well. Point is, you get what you pay for with any Dingwall.

And more to your point about the vinyl "pickguard." It's only there for aesthetics and I'm sure a ton of folks would want to remove a real pickguard if the bass had one. This way, there's no screw holes to fill in like there are if you want a pickguard-free NG3/Combi.

This actually brings up another point about the tariff on Chinese made items in the states.

my wife’s company that imports from Japan and other places had an increase on the shipping containers from approx $5000 up to $40000 CAN.


The deadly gig bag is a great point as well.

So many unseen costs rolled into these things.
I honestly would be surprised if we see a second price increase this year alone.
