Both are great but that AB checks all my boxes, although I likely wouldn't get a spalted top and fancy finish if I were ordering new just because of cost so in this case they are a bonus! But I'm a sucker for a spalted top.

I was going to ask, but looking closer that pickup is outside of the bass and on some other surface…which has arcade style buttons on it.
I’d have to push those buttons, just to see what happens. No way I could resist. Even if you told me not to touch em.

I reacted on an Instagram post about the the new NG. I asked about the 'older' colours (yellow for example) and swirl finishes. They kindly replied to me that there will be an announcement of some sort soon.
FYI, Jason at Fretnation is getting custom GHS pressurewounds made that will fit 37" dingwalls!

Hey everyone. I realize I'm coming into Dingwall specific club to ask a question but I really can't think of a better place to ask.
For people that have owned a Dingwall for upwards of 10 years, how's it holding up? I'm looking at a custom Dingwall order and want to be sure I've asked all my questions before getting involved.
I realize they're pricey and the wait is long. Neither are an issue. I'm more concerned about down-the-road structural issues.

I haven't owned one for 10 years, but my ABI I think is from 2007. I've had it for close to a year maybe and haven't had to do anything other than change strings!
I took delivery of my Super J/P in the fall of 2009. The volume control got noisy and was replaced about three years ago. Everything else has held up quite well. Except for a couple of small dings in the clear coat and swirls on the pick guard, it's in perfect shape. I always move my belt buckle around to my left side before strapping on a bass. Buckle rash is completely preventable. I don't wear jeans with rivets, so no rivet rash either.
Sweet! Can't do much about the pots really. ...and those are easy enough to replace. The five-ply necks have been very stable for me. My SJ-5 and SP-4 will turn ten next year and are also enduring well.
I live in the Rocky Mountains, took my SJ5XXX to Montana for a gig the day after I got it (2016), I have never touched the truss rod.

I have been playing my SJ5 almost exclusively since 2008. No problems. My Afterburner II from 2004 is still going strong too.
Provided you don't abuse it or leave it in a scorching hot car, there are no issues with the quality and workmanship on all Dingwall basses.
I really do hope they bring back most or all of the older colors. I know it's just my opinion, but none of the current colors other than white do much for me. I know they didn't all exist at the same time, but the older offerings of neon colors and swirls are iconic and seem to be super popular. They are really hard to come by used and tend to sell super quick. It seems like it would be a smart move to bring back some of them.

My first AB1 was a 2004 model I acquired in 2010 or so. Only adjustments the neck ever needed was messing around with different gauge and tension strings until I went back to Dingwall Steels. It's been very sturdy since.
My Z2 (absolute favorite) is a 1999 model, acquired in 2012 or so) and was loved hard before I got it. Nicks, scrapes, dents, all signs of a well played and toured bass. Would love to know who the original owner was, I'm sure it has some stories!
Again, other than experimenting with strings, no adjustment needed. I've been running Payson Nickle strings for several years, no adjustment needed.
My 2015 NG2 model only needed adjustment after having the neck painted to match. Came back as a banana (color and shape lol), but a few tweaks over a few weeks and it hasn't budged in years. Converted to a 3X as well with 6 position rotary switch.
I have had several other Dingwall basses that came and went, but these are keepers. My experience with the others, (Prima Artist, Z3, Z2, AB1, gen 1 Combustion) was consistent, but I did not own those for over 5 years.
I would not worry, order with confidence, Sheldon has had this figured out for a long time!
