So, what kinds of music are you all playing on your Dingwalls?

I use my Super J for RnB, funk, soul, jazz, pop, disco, and some rock.

I had always dismissed Dingwalls as "metal basses". I am on the lookout for a new 5er, and I came across a thread with examples of Dingwalls used for other than metal. I have to say, I'm sold! They seem quite versatile. I am looking at either a Combustion or an NG3, just waiting for the Australian distributor to get more stock (hopefully soon).

So, what kinds of music are you all playing on your Dingwalls?

That said, I have used them for Jazz/Latin type music as well.
Or covering pop songs via YouTube. The right combination of strings, set up and tone dialed in on the controls and they can be used For anything

It's so silly that Dingwall is synonymous with metal because the most recorded living bass player, Leland Sklar, has been playing Dingwall on decidedly non-metal songs and albums way longer than Nolly has been playing them in prog metal outfits.

EDIT: I've played a lot of funk and rock/indie on the Dingwalls I've owned.

If so what kind of band set up do you guys do?

I'm not a Dingwallian yet, but my band has gone fully ampless and IEMs. We go direct from pedalboards to the PA. The mixer is a Soundcraft UI24. We use Xvive U4 and I personally use a set of sure SE425. We all have tablets on stage and are able to control our own mix. Best move we have made in my opinion, load in/out and set up is super quick and we are a lot tighter now. 100% recommended

Indeed I did, mostly with my old ABZ6.

We use them exclusively. No amps at all. I feed the monitor rack with a Broughton Messenger DI. The guitarist uses a Fractal Axe-FX III, and the keyboardist DIs from his Nord. Transmitter packs and receivers are Senheiser. The monitor mixer is a Yamaha digital unit that lets each of us build our own mix from our phones. There’s a split that sends our monitor path separately from the feed to FOH. If we’re not using our PA and there’s a different sound company running FOH we just give them a stage snake with all of our outputs which are duplicates of the monitor feed. Easy peasy and the same self-crafted mix on every gig to my 64 Audio N8 IEMs.

Thank you! He will appreciate that! He's a great singer and he can really get the crowd into it, plus he's a heck of a nice guy. Me? I stand there like a stump I'm terrified of tripping and falling on stage!

Lovers Rock Reggae with my modded AB2 and metal/rock/punk with my NG's. Just started using the M+B in series setting on the AB2 for reggae and it thumps... it really, really thumps.

Classic rock / pop / praise & worship.

You can really hit a broad spectrum of genres with a Dingwall!

Not enough time left on my clock to master that beast. Not near the reaper yet but tackling a Stick is like opening up Line6 or H9 algorithms: I’ll be down the rabbit hole and lost to humanity until hunger or sleep calls. Lots of strings and tones. Too much fun.

Yeah, I lusted after a Stick for years and now that I have one it's certainly humbled me and taught me that I'm not dedicated enough/don't have the time and patience to learn a whole new instrument right now.

Please buy that before I do. I stopped getting new basses three basses ago...

If I can flip the Stick, I definitely want to buy it.
