Dingwall fam! I’m gonna be at the Guitar Summit this weekend (sort of like a European NAMM) and will have a chance to interview Sheldon.

What would you like to know?

On the NG3-6 why no string retainer on the B and C strings? Does he advise against adding them aftermarket?
Would a slightly scalloped fretboard be a possible factory modification?
Please thank him for the clear understandable setup videos on YouTube. I think Im an expert now.

There's really no reason for retainers on the outer strings given that the shorter distance to their tuners creates a solid enough break angle over the nut.

Wowsers! Higher price point, but that's a nice case! Although I'd be scratching my head as to where to stash it at tiny dive bars. Noticed that someone commented that it doesn't fit a Thunderbird. So that's a no-go for my D-Bird.

One d bird 4 and one d roc 5 in mine! If you search “enki dingwall” in google two pictures should come up from this thread showing a d bird and combustion in one

it’s a tight fit but they fit! It’s more “tight” length wise than the body

I have the Mono M80 and it’s not too bad. It is quite heavy with 2 basses and I don’t know how long it would last under regular abuse. I’ve been gentle and don’t use it very regular so I hope it’ll last a long time. It seems to offer pretty good protection.

Enki is most likely my next case purchase.

I forgot about those.

That would most likely be my purchase for a double case.

Hey Dingwallers. I’m GASing over a DROC standard. I have a Roc 4003 and a G&L L2000 which I love.

just looking for opinions on similarities/ differences good or bad when compared to the above basses I have. I mean apart from the obvious (fan frets / T bird looks)

There’s not likely any comparison. Pickups, their placement, electronics, and scale length will all make a D-roc way different from your current basses.

I would guess that the D-roc pickups in series might be similar to OMG Mode on a G&L.

The D-roc will decimate both of those basses in the ergonomics department.

You’ll have a very modern sounding bass in the Droc in comparison to your other 2.
The G&Ls get ballsy as hell as you know and you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the passive Droc and it’s output. It will cut thru with stronger mids then the G&L I imagine and significant clarity.
One big thing…. The Droc neck will be significantly faster if you are looking for agility up and down the board.
It is a rockstar bass and less of a “tech machine then the other models but the ever present Dingwall ergonomics are still there.
About the only similarity I can come up with is all 3 of these basses is that they all seem suited to hang low and be pounded hard

I‘d like to add to this.

From first-hand experience, I find what applies to basses in general, applies even more so to D-Birds / D-Rocs because of the particular location of their upper strap lock: The lower these basses hang, the worse your access to the upper frets will be.

(Usually, the venn diagramm of people enjoying a low-hanging rock bass and using the so-called "dusty end" maybe doesn‘t have a lot of overlap - still, if you do fall into both camps, you should know. A foot propped upon the nearest stage monitors and thereby angling the body helps a lot with this, though.)

It appears that the Classic Dual Bass Guitar Case, Black — M80-2B-BLK (Mono) would handle the length of the ABZ5 as well as the width of the Super J5 & D-Bird. Cool!

Yeah a bit pricey but it looks like the case would last a very long time.

Edit: Very slick. I can see why you like this brand.

Another vote for the Mono M80 double bag. I have had one for many years and it still looks great. Provides solid protection for two basses and it fits my NG-2 5 string without issue. It is fairly heavy with two basses but still manageable.

Highly recommended upgrade for original D-Birds and single bridge imports: Fretnation has replacement saddles in stock and they fit my D-Bird perfectly.

Aside from the (much!) improved ergonomics, I was pleasantly surprised about the added mass: 18 grams vs. 15 grams of the original bridge saddles - resulting in a perceptibly brighter tone.

At 10$ per piece, I‘m very happy.

Love my ABII, so I’m interested in a backup. I’ve never played a ABI so I’m not sure how close they are. Saw Dingwall posted this ABII. Don’t see it listed at dealers, so maybe built to order?

This is great. Exactly what I was looking for. I am hoping for something like the OMG mode. To be honest I adore the L2000. Especially sound wise. But the DROC is sexy as hell. I’m hoping it can be something like and hopefully better than an L2000. I was going to get a blue burst L2000 but figured I already have one (just not my ideal colour), so better to get something different.

Interesting comment on the mids and clarity. Both of which I am interested in expanding on. I mean I am super happy with the mids and clarity I get from the L2K through my GK1001, it’s pure sickness. So if it can be improved I’m all for it.

keep you're eyes peeled for when I get my AB2 in , I don't think I'll be so quick to sell it but you never know with me. I have a love/hate relation ship with the Dingwall tone, this will be my first Canadian one though. its currently stuck in customs though.
