Are you comfortable waiting many months for a custom build? Are there options (body/neck woods, inlays, color) that you'd be willing to pay many more dollars for compared to a D-Roc Standard?
I would say: buy a D-Roc Standard, play it a while, and if you really love it, you can pay a fairly small deposit to any number of Dingwall dealers to get a custom build in the queue.
4 or 5? The standard 5 is now so close to the custom I'd save the couple of grand and go with the standard every day, I say this as a D-roc custom 5 owner.
Sorry to me more question. Sounds like the DROC needs a longer string set. I’ve been using DAddario XL Long Scale. Lately GHS boomers.

Lots of info about string throughout this thread. Dingwall nickel strings are made by D'addario.
Payson offers great strings.
Jason at Fretnation.com can help you find other strings that will fit.
EDIT: I thought you meant for a 5 string. Many companies' long/extra long 4 string sets will fit a 36.25" scale low E.
No just the 4. Ok thanks for letting me know. I just didn’t want to have an awkward bass. Especially here in Canada where stuff can be hard to source
There are two on L&M gearhunter right now, the one in Kamloops has a little discount. Lots of info is avaliable on strings and on a 4 you have many more options.

Not sure if they still get them but the Saskatoon L&M used to get B-Stock in and they came with a little discount too. They often have stock when other stores don't so they are worth a call (going into another store won't help you need to call direct)

Someone kindly said that many companies make 36.25” long strings. I have searched here and on google of course. I just want some comfort in knowing I have choices. I don’t want to be importing special fanned fret strings from the US for hopefully obvious reasons.
Sounds like this ain’t the case. I also see strings on Dingwalls site (worst case) and someone said they’re made by D’Addario. But still I’d rather hop to my local L&M when required

D-Roc 4 requires a 38" winding length for the longest string.
This covers:
D'Addario Extra Long
DR Long Scale
Ernie Ball Extra Long
La Bella Extra Long
SIT Extra Long
GHS Long Plus
Sadowsky Extra Long
Fodera Extra Long
and more.
L&M may not stock the extra long.
Worst case scenario if you break a string, you can use a long scale for the A D G string positions.

I'm about to list my DG AO900 Centurion and 212N cab and I'd like to see if anyone has an NG3 four string they'd be interested in trading. Possibly an AB four string? I've got gear and cash to help make a deal happen. A DROC 5 would pique my interest as well. I already had a 4 and in stock in form it just doesn't do it for me.

You can also just buy Dingwall strings which are pretty great and widely available, you can buy direct or L&M carry them.
I think you’re worked up about nothin’. You should move forward with the bass purchase. It may require you to think just a little farther ahead regarding strings.
Dingwall strings shouldn’t be that hard to get in Canada. Always shoot for a set designed for fanned basses. You’ll notice a difference in tone and balance from string to string.
