I wouldn't say that I'm playing better in a way that would garner complements. I sometimes play more ornaments than are necessary for a great bass line. I think it's more about the clarity of tone. At least the way I'm using it, the ABZ sounds very articulate, but without the spiky top end that you typically hear from something like an active Jazz.
People seemed to be responding to the fact that the low end had such authority, yet the pitches were clear and there was less mud and boom.
One sound person in particular, commented that she could turn me up further without things getting muddy in the low mids or competing with the guitars and keys.
