Reserving the right to be wrong, the MMSR is the model name of the John East Preamp riding on top of the Dingwall 6 way rotary pickup selector that Lobster added as a mod.

I don’t know how a guy with lobster claws for hands can install complex electronics in a bass. Age has taught me to just simply accept that there are certain mysteries in the world that can’t be solved.

Now that you jogged my memory, I think that's it. I watched the video where he modified it, but didn't catch that detail, thanks.

If anyone has converted a 2x bass to a 3x and has a 2x rotary switch they don't need any more, please let me know. I love them and like to put them in all of my (forgive my sins) parallel-fret project basses.

When I refurbed an Ibanez with DGTC, Nordstrand Dingwall type pickups, and a 2x, I got the switch from Fretnation, just in their regular stock.

I've had my Tri112L for over a decade and it's my absolute favorite cab. Easy to transport, loads of oomph, tons of clarity. Always get a ton of compliments on my tone whenever I use it.

It felt *almost like* my NG3 (which I loaded with FDVs). If the fretboard were a wenge one plus speedo bar inlays, it could have been a totally different story

I've got a big paycheck coming up after working my ass off for the last couple of months, so I splurged and ordered myself my first Dingwall, a 6-string Combustion CB3! Not a lot of those floating around the EU at the moment, it seems. Hopefully this won't make me completely neglect my beloved stingrays and Ibby BTB's though...

any of you guys use Payson Nickels? how long do they stay moderately zingy? I saw a very nice comparison vid someone made of most of they're string offerings, and I feel like over all I dug the sound of the nickels more than the steels.

I'm using SIT's multiscale nickel set. So far so good! Swapped out my Dingwall strings a couple months ago. Great stuff.

I really like those - very consistent timbre/tone across the 5 strings - I just wish they had a bit more tension.

I am trying GHS pressurewounds ("DW set") and really like them (still versatile but they're obviously on the mellower side of things). Hoping for a GHS Boomers DW set...

Payson Nickels I find more even (tonally across strings) that DW nickels, and both sets I haven't found significantly better or worse than typical nickel strings in terms of "zing" durability.

It’s always going to vary based on your playing style, how often you’re playing and body chemistry. For me they stay moderately bright for at least a month and are useable for 2-3 months.

I didnt have a good first impression with a set of SIT foundations I put on a bass of mine in the past. for that reason I'd be likely to be wary of trying another set unless I'm feeling experimental lol.

I’d second this. My chemistry and local environment isn’t hard on strings. I can easily pull 2-3 months from a set. I’ve got a buddy I could lend a bass to for a weekend and get it back with dead strings.

I assume if I was playing hot night clubs I’d be chewing thru strings quicker.
The Payson nickels have a nice long life IMO.

I find the SS strings full out in about half the time.
