Just changed to stainless steel strings on my combustion and it sounds soooo good now. I didn’t think different type of stings would change things so much.

That should give you some nice highs. on other basses , especially high output like a G&L, you can really hear a difference in my experience . Nickel to steel is a pretty significant change, if that’s what you had on. Definitely interested to see what other strings sound like on the DROC. Like ghs. I’d overlooked those for years but they’re killer.

But I was looking to make a small pedal board and the first hack I did was turned a tc electronic g minor into phantom powered via midi (and a small cable to send power from its input to the wah wah haha!)
But I found an old 1U rack shelf that was absolutely perfect for a small pedal board!
Much cheaper option and works perfect! This one had a slight angle and the edges are reinforced with a bend.

There are many ways to Mecca - I saw a guy who used a modified top part of an old Manhasset metal music stand in the same way.
I played this one today. It's actually a white swirl finish and is in excellent condition. (Not the best photo, sorry). For some reason Guitar Center didn't even tune it - I mean it was several steps out of tune, and since there was no tension on the strings the neck was a little back bowed. That's all that was needed though - after a quick tune up it played with low action/zero fret buzz and it sounded incredible. I'm looking for a more subdued finish or I would have walked out with it.

Ok so question, I’ve seen Dingwalls with the more square style pickups in videos. Were those early versions of the basses ? And do they still make pickups for those basses ? I saw a version of the Nolly bass with that style of pups. If someone wanted to swap pups are they pretty much out of luck ?
I think you have more choices overall as those are standard EMG 40DC soap bar sized (I think that’s model #). So, EMG, Aguilar, Nordy and more options.
Ah ok but it seems like Dingwall pups are made a certain way to make them sound the way they do. So getting pups which don’t sound like them would maybe make guys not want to them get them ?
Looking for opinions. I just ordered a Combustion and they are going to install the 6-way selector before they ship it out. Configured like so:
1 - B/M
2 - B/N
3 - B/M/N
4 - B solo
5 - M solo
6 - N solo
All of those in parallel. They mentioned they can add 3 toggle switches 1 for each pick to set each to series or parallel.
The options are pretty limitless if I do but I'm not sure I want to modify the stock bass with something i can't undo
Just looking for thoughts/opinions

I like the series/parallel switches - especially going with a 6 way switch. And one thing to consider is - how are your pickups currently wired?
Basses with D roc switches normally* come with pickups wired Bs Ms Np
Basses with 3x switches normally come with pickups wired as Bs Mp Ns
* as far as I could gather here and there - YMMV. s = Series p = parallel
My personal experience/taste (ABZ5 and C5) - 2 series-wired pickups together in series is "a bit too much"; 2 pickups together in parallel where one or 2 pickups is wired in parallel is "a bit thin". It also seems to be the way Dingwall looks at this if you compare default 4 way switches settings with the default pickup wiring above.
Sorry if that raises even more questions - but I like having choices (my G&L L2000s have even more options with internal/external/dual coil mods!)

That all makes sense. It's a default Combustion so 3x but it's coming from Dingwall to the place I purchased from first, they confirmed they could wire the 6-way mod like I mapped out, so that's good at least

I have an older Combustion with the square pups, replaced them with Nordstrand FD3s a few years back. No issues and Mo and others have assured me that they work fine.
Compared them to the stock FD3n on a similar serial # NG and my experience aligns with most opinions I see here regarding the FD3s. Warmer low end, a little less sterile sounding in the upper harmonics, still an aggressive pickup for sure but a little more balanced. Overall I don’t regret switching to them at all and preferred the Nordstrands in the A/B between the two basses.
I have an older Combustion with those pickups. It's a ways back in this thread but the newer offerings of FDV pickups should fit in the square shells if you wanted to change them.
I was going to do a swap but decided against it. I really like their tone, and I also really like my NG's. It's less aggressive but that's not to say you can't get aggressive sounds out of it.
Do it, more options more choices more better the chances of you getting exactly what sound you want. What you want will change, no problem you have the options to adjust.
