I don't know that the wenge is sealed so much as it's sanded and polished to an incredibly smooth finish.
I will be interested to compare my Z3’s neck to the only Wenge neck I’ve played, my Warmoth.
Does it get sticky though? That’s the big reason I prefer raw oiled necks.
The first time I played a Dingwall wenge neck was on my SJ build in 2016 that I recall. At first I didn’t really know what to make of it as I was most used to the walnut necks and maple. It did not take very long to be completely won over by it. They are Smooth for sure but still grainy and it definitely varies neck to neck. I’ve come to really love the texture of the wenge.
with that, the stability and I guess a feel of more solid construction. Not sure how to describe that second part right but the wenge to me feels more sturdy, thick(even thou not thick), rigid(?), definite….
Our temps take some major shifts around here, Like 5 to -20C over night at least a couple times during the winter. Humidity bounces a bit with that obviously. But the wenge is definitely the most stable necks I’ve Owned. I did have a zon graphite for a minute but it never had the time test… I’m sure it would have been impressively the most stable.
The wenge necks I’ve played also seem to sound tighter. Maple seems to have a more “Open” midrange in comparison.
Some of the wenge necks also seem more sealed than others @Katoosie . I’ll try and post some photos later.
I had a Cort fretless for a short time and it had maybe the first wenge neck I played. It was incredibly nice for a $250 bass. It did not resemble any dingwall necks. Lol

Edit: I thought it was one of the new ones that do not have pickguards, I know Ish had some. Still gorgeous!
Yeah get an active one this time around. The Darkglass preamp definitely has a baked-in sound, while the Glock is very transparent and natural. The flexibility is super-useful live.

Me as well!!! I am actually happy that they are sealed. I hate messing with oiling fretboards.
I love the DGTC in my 5er Z. I have had and enjoyed the Glock with a AB2 6er before and daydream about that combo again as a counterpoint to that snarly 5er.

First gig with the Combustion last night. It went great. the band loved the tone, they all said at different points that they had to turn me down in their in ears a bit (been playing passive fenders before).
The only hiccup was playing scar tissue, going up the fretboard I got caught out a bit by the parallax effect, gut got my bearings after the first few notes. One more gig tonight going direct to PA and band practice tomorrow playing through an amp.
I don't see myself picking up the fenders or the streamer any time soon...

Side note. We have a very special resultant here and the family who operates it makes sooo Much from scratch. Including Pickled mangoes. They put a slice with their Ceaser(drink). It is delicious.

What is a Ceaser? That is my name, so may be keen to adopt it as my drink if it's ok
