I am thinking about applying some wax or something on the body and neck on my afterburner 2 with mahogany neck and body and bubinga top to protect the wood. I dont know what kind of finish was used on these basses though, it feels super smooth and like it can use some protection.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Sold my D Bird a while back, and have regretted it ever since. Picked up this D-Roc in a trade with a buddy while I was in Virginia, and just got it home. My ABZ isn't my only Dingwall again.
Next up, I'm going to restring to set up in C Standard, and want to change the rotary switch. My favorite setting is the "jazz bass" or two outer pickups. I thought I still had a 3 way selector switch here, but it turns out I have a 2 way. I'm not even sure why I have that switch, LOL. I know I could just not use the middle pickup and then I'd have neck + both parallel and series jazz + bridge pickup options. At least, I think so.

You 'could' just not use the middle pickup but middle solo is the best sound on the D-Roc/bird IMO

Ha, can't blame you. It is an amazing bass. So good, I sold my other ABZ and D-Bird when I got it (which in hindsight)......

OK, tech question. The only settings I use on my ABZ is the neck pickup and the neck+bridge in parallel. So, it seems I could use this 2X switch I have and convert this D-Roc to essentially a 2 pickup model. I could be burned out from a 2 day drive to get home (Thanks Southwest Airlines), but I can't find the diagram. Anyone have which wires go where?

Your ABZ ticks 98.532% of my boxes. Ash, trans white, wenge/wenge, 3 pickups, speedos. I would prefer passive but it's fine.
I've been planning my custom build in my head for about a year now and trans white is one of the colors at the top of my list, but one thing I really think is super cool is colored speedo bars to match the body...like red body and red speedos. I think that works better with a maple neck/board though so I don't know if I want the bling or if I want the wenge. Plus my current ABZ has a wenge board with white speedos, but it has a maple neck and vintage burst finish.

This wenge neck is may favorite neck I have. I also think it looks absolutely amazing with the trans white finish. Here is a great picture or two from the previous owner.
You're moving the trans white with wenge back up to the top of my list
Trans white and the Ducati Yellow are two colors I love, but only with a wenge neck. Would never get those colors with a maple neck. But I prefer a red, green, or orange with maple neck.
This is the one that really got me hooked on the colored speedos. Should have bought it.

I just restrung my NG3 5 string with a new set of Kalium strings I had bought last year (bought several sets to save on shipping). Now the lowest 3 strings are farting when I play them. I'm puzzled, nothing else changed. Any ideas?
I have an Afterburner II of similar vintage, only my neck is bubinga. At the time if I remember correctly, Sheldon recommended a clear shoe polish, so that is what I used. I only did it once.
Some descriptors above and beyond “farting” will be needed to get a clearer picture of what you’re experiencing. Is this happening amplified or unamplified? Can you localize a source for this, like the bridge, nut, or tuning machines? Any loose screws, nuts, or connectors? Hex core or round core strings? Are the switches and pots clean and dust free?
Among the first suggestions anybody will make is to make sure to check the battery.
Batteries are ok. It is happening amplified. I think I might have found the culprit, looks like the gain on my compressor must have been turned up by accident when I was fiddling with settings on other pedals, so the lows from my 3 lowest strings were clipping my preamp. Total coincidence that it coincided with the string change.

Let’s go with them audio/video clips. You and that bass sound great! I probably won’t ever put flats on a Dingwall but you’ve made me consider it!
