Yes, 2X. Even though the option of having 3 pickups is tempting, I really don’t have a use for the “music man” bridge pickup sound and I really like how 2 pickups sound in parallel and series.
It also looks a bit more traditional, which helps when dealing with conservative band leaders haha

What about the rest of the build?

i can’t make up my mind on maple/wenge, vs. full wenge, vs. roasted maple/wenge. Any comparative insights from your conversation with Sheldon (beyond what he mentions in your video)? :)

Aaah, see: Brain Fog on my end. Somehow I assumed "2X" to translate into a 3X-arrangement with one of the outer pickups removed. I see now on the website that 2X is simply the moniker for two pickups in "classic" J-type positions.

Might have been the homemade egg nogg.

Pretty similar to my Super P, but with a Roasted Ash neck.

Merry Christmas everybody! This was my first full year of gigging/playing Dingwall exclusively and im not looking back. Over 60 shows this past year and each one was a pleasure to play.

For the most part, I was a "good boy" this year and treated myself to some FD3's for El Dorado. I did some preproduction last week for an upcoming recording and the band loved the tones. Fantastic pickups.

I really like the FD3. I like how the top end is a little thicker than the stock FD3N and tighter down low too. To my ears, its just a solid, "modern" tone. I have them in a 5 string NG as well.

Well, in 2016, street price was over $5K.

My current #1 Dingwall came from them as well. Shipped in a low quality box with no packing material. The gig bag was beat up from the trip. I'm fortunate the bass wasn't damaged.

If that Sklar was from another seller, I might have bought it. I'll never buy another bass from that shop.

It is interesting you say that. I know the AB1 I have now came from there, but I got it from someone in the US. Kicker is they didn't do anything to the box and you're right - that box was not worth its salt. I'd probably buy one of these from them and have them ship in it instead:

But I understand the concern for sure.

Oh, it's all good. They gave me a set of strings for a 5 string bass to make up for the poor shipping job on my 6 string bass...
