This was posted over at the sevenstring.org forum, hasn't even been mentioned on the Dingwall forum yet, but I thought I'd share with TalkBass.
Adam (Nolly) of prog-metal band Periphery posted it on his Facebook... apparently a prototype Combustion that will be at NAMM '14 most likely.
Thanks for the good review and all the pointers, I'm waiting delivery of the new Dingwall nickels and I can't wait to try them on my ABZ and ABII, I have tried those Payson ones before with disappointing results in both the overly dark sound and the excessive tension of them though I understand he is now offering a lighter gauge but if the actual nickel formula Payson uses is the same as the thicker one I shan't bother being disappointed again ( remember I'm entitled to my opinions Payson ) and I trust Dingwall strings over any other manufacturers a thousand to one, good of you to take the time to review these strings
I see the reduced core sets over at Bassstringsonline.com, but only in five string sets.
Can I get a C for the sixer?
I'm really liking the medium light nickels, how do they compare to the reduced core? I'd be really excited about an even softer feeling string with the same smooth wrap.
The first version of the Payson nickel rounds were quite stiff. I liked how they worked, and sounded, and the super low action. But over the last couple years, my tastes have changed towards lighter, softer strings. I love TI jazz flats, but I'd consider them to be a "very soft" on the scale of soft to stiff. It was too much of a change for me to go from the TI flats to the first edition Payson nickels. Like going from driving a cushy old Cadillac to a formula one car.
The medium lights are much more in line with what I want now.
Thanks for bringing us yet another string option for our Dingwalls!
Exciting news indeed, GW!
Very interested in hearing your string report.
While I love the tone of the Dingwall stainless' I am very disappointed in how quickly they give up the ghost. I can wear these things out quicker than a set of D'addarios. It's become grossly apparent since I have been playing the Super J full time. I wipe them down, wash my hands prior to handling, with no luck.
The sets I purchased direct were best and were average in terms of life. I went to a couple of local vendors to avoid customs, ship time etc. the last go round both sets of strings were really old based on the packaging.
I wish I had remembered to ask if I could add 4 or 5 sets when I ordered the Super P5. I suspect the strings would be factory fresh.
Some exciting news here!!
I'd say! Have fun working with Hungarvain! I think you're onto something with the unique PH we all have affecting string life. I must be fairly neutral. I don't wipe my strings and they seem to last pretty long. Cool aquarium, BTW...

Give Barry a holler or an e-mail. He would be happy to tack some string sets on to your SP5 order. I did the same thing a couple of days ago.
I'm curious, what's the actual tension in terms of pounds per string for the Sansone's and the Payson nickels?

I'm really excited about all the different string options available now. Folks have been mixing, matching and ordering custom for a while. Lord knows I've trimmed some silk.
I think having more strings specifically for fanned fret/Dingwall basses is a good thing, people like options.
I've always loved the tension, feel and quality of the DW Voodoo SS strings...twenty years will due that I guess.
I currently have on a set of the Payson ML Nickels. The tension is pretty much dead-on with the Voodoo's, the set-up on my bass did not change. I really like the strings and I'm looking forward to trying some of these other options as well.
The aquarium video was a treat. The world is really going to miss George Duke.
Zoomie I believe is to do with our individual PH I am blessed with the fact that I don't sweath much and all strings not just the Ding'ers last me for ages. I know a man who can deaden a set of strings within the first set of his gig. Sadly he has to play flatwound because S/Steels or Nickel go pear shape on him almost immediately.
