I appreciate the suggestion. I thought about going direct, but BC took great care of me and thus I went through them. Barry agreed that when you get great customer service, always vote with your checkbook!

My hands rarely sweat when I play and my strings always last a long time. I think I can recall only twice where my hands have sweated playing in the last 20 years and that was when it was heatwave hot.
I am still on my second set of strings on my SJ5 and I got it in 2008. Maybe I don't play enough, but it has been my main player since then.
I have had someone kill a new set of strings on my bass after 3 tunes. I am a bit leery of letting people try my basses as a result. It's too expensive!

Just a quick update on the Dingwall nickel wrapped rounds.
I've now had them on for about a week and a half or so, several 3 hour rehearsals and several shows, including a sweaty one last night for over 3 hours of play time. No special care given to them.
These strings sound great AND feel great. I feel like I'm playing tighter and my tone is more 'together' than the steels. They don't seem to be aging, wearing or dulling down or feeling less lively nearly as quickly as the steels (when active I end up cleaning steels every two weeks or so and by then they're dead feeling and sounding).
I'm really impressed with these, after 5 years solid of using the stainless strings and being very happy with them. To me any changes in tone or feel are positive rather than negative. One of these minutes I'll be ordering a few more sets to have on hand.

Wow. Was it the sweat or the thrash-metal songs that did the strings in?
It was most definitely the sweat (of someone else). My basses have not been exposed to thrash-metal!
The purpose of my visit to Bass Direct today was to collect the new Dingwall Nickel strings but also to present the Sansone Strings to Mark Stickley, with the purpose of these being imported in UK from Italy by Mark.
I am pleased to say that Mark did like the strings a lot, and said that despite the fact that nowadays there are more variety and brands of strings available for the Dingwall basses (which he stocks already) compared to a few years ago, such as La Bella, Payson, Cirkle K and a few others, but nevertheless he realizes that none of the other strings have the characteristics of these Sansone strings, i.e. their low tension and very pleasing tonal characteristics which is something that is capable to fill a hole in the market and he is convinced that he can see the interest potential among those Dingwall owners who prefers a softer tention yet maintaining consistency from string to string and plenty of range from solid bottom to clear and zingy highs. I let Mark try both my Fender Jazz and the ABZ 5 and while trying both he asked me a few times, are you sure these are not nickels? I said no no, look at the packet it says Stainless Steel round wounds, and yet it is clear that they do sound a lot like nickels so I won't blame him for making sure.
Overall it was a positive out turn I was able to collect a set of new Dingwall Nickels which will be fitted to my ABII Stradivarius and he has been given the contact details of the sales team at Sansone, so... watch this space, Sansone Strings soon available in UK and the rest of the world.
I have a few obligatory pics of the shop (see below), I have to say I've visited Bass Direct a few times in the last 3 years but I have never seen before so many different Dingwall basses available in his showroom at once, he was well stocked this time, he had a whole wall full of them, I was also able to try the new ABZ 3xxx triple humbucker which is an interesting concept, thanks to the extended range of sounds available, so if you get a chance check them out, these are very interesting instruments and kudo's to Sheldon for going the extra mile in trying quirky but definately usable options.
For me driving from London to Bass Direct in Coventry it's a bit of a long and boring 120 miles drive there and 120 miles back which is why I don't really visit more often but everytime I go, I make sure I have a friend with me otherwise I get seriously bored! (usually the same good friend)

Did you try the Kala uke bass? The rubber band strings are weird, but kind of cool. They sound huge.
I played one through a 1000 watt tube amp and SWR 8-10 at a GTG a few weeks ago. It was pretty amazing.

Yes I did try one, I was intrigued to see what the 5 strings sounded like, it was great fun, though I couldn't see myself serioulsy spending $1600 for one of them when after all they are a bit of a toy more than a workable instrument.
Yes it was and much nicer up close than in a photo, best combi color bar none, I think.
