Ok, I haven't touched the DWDG pedal for a week now and received my Droc back. I've been playing it clean as well. I don't know what the hell happened day 1 but that dark blanket is not overwhelming anymore. More of a slight color now, but most importantly the tone and drive are reacting much more appropriately. Sounds like I expected it to now.
My search for an amp has ended... So far it's amazing! I found it for 700 used from GC and jumped on it. I was about to buy the GK212 Fusion combo but now there's no point. The 9v power out is awesome although it's only 300ma the dual channels are both useful on their own and mixed together BRUTAL. The "800" watts... That's a LIE, I can barely turn the master volume past 10 o'clock and gain around 9 and it's trying to blow my pair of DG212 cabs apart.
You can completely defeat the preamp and use as a power amp if you wanna let your pedal board be the tone. There few demos on YouTube are pretty true to how it sounds in person. I might go get my Ashdown cabs from the shop and see how they handle the power but I'm ecstatic with how good this thing sounds. The mid free selections are very useful and you hear the differences. One last thing about the volume, is that it stays musical even while ripping your face off
pretty sweet bass for sale. Reminds of me when i posted about my six order here… someone was like “i cant wait for it to be posted for sale after you get if cause it looks to be a great build.” To that person… yes it was, but no i wont sell it. :-D

I played a 4 string Dingwall, a Combustion, at Chicago Music Exchange when I was in the Windy City for work last week and I was surprised by the neck profile. It was much thicker front to back than I expected. I didn't like it, and I suspect I'm gravitating towards more slimmed down J bass profiles on 4 strings.
I was also surprised by how poorly it was setup. I thought CME would care more than GC does, but the action was higher than I know the bass is capable of.
First time trying the 3x setup, too. I wish they included a hangtag that said which switch it had and what the positions were. If I had a 3x, I'd probably want neck solo, bridge neck parallel, bridge middle series, and some kind of all-three option. I dunno what the options are on a Combustion 3x, but I think I gravitated toward bridge+middle.
The Dark Forest green was very nice. They also had a purple quilted 6 string that was absolutely gorgeous but was heavier than the AB1-6 I previously owned (as pictured in my avatar). Of course, my left hand still doesn't get along with the wide 6 string neck, but Dingwall definitely has my favorite 6 string bass neck profile.
I was sad that CME doesn't carry, or at least did not have in the shop at the time, any Canadian Dingwalls.
I had a good laugh at the Sadowsky's and a 10k'ish Alembic that had lame B strings.
Slightly off-topic, I was blown away by the tiny little Phil Jones X-4 combo. Somehow, that thing sounded enormous.

Interesting that the Sadowsky and Alembic at CME didn't have good B strings. I have one of each at 34" scale and the B's are fabulous. Maybe it's a set up issue.
Are there any shops that are spec'ing Canadian Dingwalls for retail? My guess is probably no. I think most buyers in the market for a new Canadian model will want to spec it out to their desires. I know I did. Used Canadians would be the only Dingwalls I would expect to see in a retail shop.

John Fox and Bass Freaks has Canadians sometimes, brand new made to their spec. They are usually gone the moment they get put on their respective websites! Same as for example Adamovic. Those also sell out like hot cakes.
I know JFB and Fretnation reserve the build slots, and if a customer doesn't grab it, they order something for stock.
Yeah! This was a bit anticipated. No offense. Some folks cycle through some amazing basses without keepin any. I’m having a hard time parting with any of mine. I try to convince myself I should… it doesn’t work.
i have the x8 cab. My dad put is best: where is the bass? Mind you, maybe it will do better with a big amp.

Just kidding. I get the temptation. That Ducati white Z on reverb has been yelling at me! My self control comes easy when there’s no available funds… and I’ve got way more then I deserve already.
I actually let go of my first and third custom Dingwalls - long stories that I won't go into now. I don't see myself ever letting go of the remaining four before my death. I'll repeat myself - there is no perfection on earth, but they are SO close that it just doesn't get any better for me. I'd been off of the GAS/DAS train for years until I commissioned the four-string Dakota Red AB-I last year (inspired by my NG-2), but now I'm done. Thanks again to Sheldon for creating such magnificent instruments!

It's definitely not the most bottom-heavy amp on earth, but I could see the X4 fitting really nicely on a desk for when I just want to noodle around when I should be working. I definitely wouldn't gig it. But as a practice tool? Sounds so much better than the little 8" combos that were around when I started playing in the early 2000s.
