Interesting that the Sadowsky and Alembic at CME didn't have good B strings. I have one of each at 34" scale and the B's are fabulous. Maybe it's a set up issue.

Are there any shops that are spec'ing Canadian Dingwalls for retail? My guess is probably no. I think most buyers in the market for a new Canadian model will want to spec it out to their desires. I know I did. Used Canadians would be the only Dingwalls I would expect to see in a retail shop.

I think everyone has a different threshold for what they consider a good B string. And they could've used some fresh strings. They did sound good, I can certainly see why people love them and pay so much for them because they are incredibly well made, but they didn't tickle my fancy.

I played Sadowsky’s for almost a couple decades. They have a great B string for a 34” scale but there’s only so much you can do with those physics. Once I picked up a Dingwall with the long scale B it was over. I can never go back.

I can play 34" four string basses and enjoy it but I'm not sure on regular scale 5's. I had once since getting my Dingwalls and it didn't last long.

I love my 34, 32, 30, and 28" scale 4 strings, but anything less than the 35" B on my Super P5 is underwhelming. And other 35" scale straight fret basses just don't feel good in my hands. There's a compromise with the 35" B compared to a 37", but the Super P5 is the perfect marriage of classic style and tone with modern playability. I'll get another 37" Dingwall someday though.

I have a couple of "regular" 5-strings that do well at 34" scale length. Nothing is going to compete with a 37", but they still sound quite good.

Just kidding. I get the temptation. That Ducati white Z on reverb has been yelling at me! My self control comes easy when there’s no available funds… and I’ve got way more then I deserve already.

That Ducati white Z3 is calling my name too! I want to send it back to Dingwall and get it swirled in green. My first Dingwall had the Black swirl and I loved it.

Nakoa’s Z3 is amazing and I regret selling it. Stupid taxes… someone should buy it. It’s a remarkable Z3, I just like my Z3 build / wood choices a little more!

Fingerstyle.
Played over the neck pickup and bridge pickup.
All 4 pickup selector settings.
8 samples in total.
Flat EQ.
Straight into the DI.
No effects.

My Bongo had a Dynamite B string. As does my Spector Forte. The bongo more so and to my own surprise is really clean and articulate.. the massive punch it has isn’t surprising thou.

I’m glad it has that blue stripe. Personal preference is keeping my finances right where they need to be with that one

I would take one of the screws from your existing pickups to the hardware store.

When I installed the P tone in my Super, I had to drill and tap the holes for the mounting screws. It’s not a difficult job, I was more worried about the soldering aspects.

I just talked to JFB, and turns out they have used 2 different sizes! I measured mine and he hooked me up

There are retailers in Europe and Japan that have Canadian builds for sale. You’ll find them on Reverb if your search settings allow it.

Yeah our local dealer has a couple of Canadian ones on order (one of them is for me ) but it's true, most business for Canadian ones is direct, unsurprisingly, given the high degree of customization.

Just found this club page! Cool stuff. I finally got a Dingwall and I thought the fret thing would take longer to adjust to but it was really quick. Even the low A sounds ridiculous on this thing!

Yes, it’s New Bridge Cable Day….er, I mean New Bass Day. My Black Forest Green NG3 6-string, set up in F#0, is here.

I want to say that I am impressed with my Korg Pitch Black tuner.

True to Korg’s claim, it has no problem handling that beast of a note. Pardon the dust, and one of my long gray hairs.

Also, this came with a six-way, purchased from and installed by FretNation, and I am VERY happy with the variety of tones. It’s just got the bridge solo swapped out in favor of middle solo, and I have to do some tinkering to figure out if they were able to retain the normal order for the switch that they list, or if they had to juggle them about a bit, but the six tones are quite distinct, and there’s not one that I don’t think I could readily use, depending on what the song needs. All six sound great.

I just want to say that Dingwall has done a couple of solids for me/Mo on the Super J customization that I have going on. I know we know but they are freaking awesome!

I quickly realized that the F#0 is a string that needs to be carefully used, but has real potential to add some interesting color and feel to the right bass line. Like, everyone’s probably played a line where you ride the open E on everything from straight eighths to various rhythms, and I don’t think that sort of use is going to be the right one for the F# string. A couple of hard, low punches at the beginning of a riff, or dropped into place in the middle of one, and it could be just right.
