Dingwall Owners Club

I wondered when this would show up.. my old AB2 that had been passed around here on TB quite a bit. He's added $1700 to the price I sold it to him for and he didnt indicate its only 9V (EDIT: correct pickup info is in the listing). There was also a trick to put the battery in correctly, there is no room in that cavity. You can see the pooched out cover, he obviously didnt bother to make sure it was flush.

Dingwall ABII 5 - White | Reverb

I feel for the guy that finds this out later. Unless the dude modded it in some way or another, but I see zero indication of that.

EDIT: corrected my post based on the info on reverb

It is a beautiful bass though! I’m really drawn to the ABII models, especially in white. This one and the trans white that @Katoosie has are some of the best looking Dingwalls I’ve seen. Maybe some day I’ll add one to the mix.

Until then, still lovin my DBird (that was also passed around TB a bit, and tastefully modded before I got it). I will probably do a custom 4 or 6 way switch mod in the near future. I’m thinking bridge, middle, neck, bridge/middle, middle/neck, all three. That gives me some nice clean split coil sounds in the first three positions and some nice rich multi pickup sounds in the last three positions. This should look familiar to some here…

I gave that a serious look even though it was in Thialand as it checks all my boxes. I could tell from the knobs it had a preamp...yes! Wait...where's the battery box?? Wait...why is the control cavity all messed up? Ugh. Nevermind.

Kinda weak, but I guess I get it.
Was there ever anything wrong with that ABII?
It looks great, minus the weirdly bent plate for the electronics - what's up with that?

Actually, the one I have is the exact colour as the one in the Reverb ad, look.

Nothing "wrong" per se. It was wired incorrectly when I got it. I put in all new guts (switches, pots, jack, etc), tried multiple preamp and pickup combinations, string types (rounds, flats, groundwounds & pressurewounds)... I have some great sounding recordings and videos with it, but the Alder NG's just felt more "right" to me (and still do). To me, the bass had this weird low-mid focused thing going on that you couldn't EQ out - maybe I just didn't get along with the semi-hollow walnut & wenge mix..

it does say it has FD3Ns in the description, though. A beautiful bass, aside from the cavity cover!

wow.. I didn't see that at first. I saw it listed a couple of days ago, I wasn't sure it was the one I owned as that info wasn't there. I verified the Ser# this morning and decided to share with everyone. He must have updated it at some point.

Thank you for pointing that out, I updated my OG post.

That’s my old D-bird. Glad to see it’s doing well. Looks so much better with the black hardware than the stock smoked chrome stuff.

UGH, and I PM'd you right after that guy too. The convo from a few days ago had me thinking about the Canadians I either passed on or just missed out on... this being at the top of the list. Oh well, she wasn't perfect for me or I would've acted sooner. I shall make do until the perfect one comes along.

Mine is still stock, apart from what look like the same fretboard stickers that I have, so hardware and the pickguard sticker are the only differences from yours, for now. If I hadn’t been busy getting ready for a trip next week, I’d have put those SFIIs in by now.
