Gotta love new Dingwall day! It’s not often I buy a five string, but I’m very happy with it! Picked it up used.
It arrived! I tried to tone down the red a little so that it matched reality better, but now it looks a little too flat. Oh well, at least the notes aren't flat! It sounds great, especially in the neck position with the p-tone pickups. I'll have to play around a little more to get a real opinion of the tone, but if it only had the p-tone neck pick up and was wired passive, I'd be happy. If ordered new, I'd probably go with the Neve preamp but the Glockenklang isn't bad in any way. Like someone mentioned earlier, more surgical than tone enhancing. I love the wenge neck, it's like nature's composite.
Think back to when you first tried fanned frets. For me, the switch was quick. The issues I had were an occasional miss on the F and C on the E and B string respectively. Oops, F# or C#. Moving up the neck, if you look down at the side of the fretboard you can be off by a half step when you go perpendicular to the position you see on the B string side of the fretboard. And chords up higher need to played with different fingerings. Some are easier, some more difficult. But nothing much more the picking up any new bass. Not as intimidating as it first looks. (The red bass is my second Dingwall, so, thinking back.)
Also - who uses the reach extender? I'm 5'8" and it's a lifesaver for me. It lets me reach those first position notes similarly to a "normal" bass.

I installed a reach-extender on my AB5. Very helpful for the lower positions. But, I don't use it. I prefer to adjust my bass accordingly when staying low or going high.
I keep calling it the reach around button. And not even intentionally. The strap wraps around and reached the mounting point, maybe?

Howdy everyone. I guess it's been a minute.
I am getting back into the game again finally and I am absolutely priced out of the Canadian market for the foreseeable future. So I'm trying to figure out which import to start with. Should I start with a DROC 5 standard or a Nolly6? I will be playing a wide range of stuff from all decades that will likely not include metal. The hardest rock might be something like Disturbed, Puddle of Mud or Breaking Benjamin. Mainly stuff like Incubus, STP, RHCP and could range back into the 60's, 70's and 80's. I assume the neck profile of the NG3 would be most like my last ABI. But I've never played either of these basses so I can only compare YouTube vids.
I would love to hear what you guys who have played or are currently playing these basses have to say about it. Going to be pulling the trigger in the next day or two.

Reach extender? Is that the strap button on the back of the body or am I missing something?
I use it. When I'm not playing a Dingwall, I'm usually playing a 33" scale Muckelroy.
Definitely makes it more comfortable for me.
Cool! Yes, I use it too. It is way more comfy than the other strap on the side of the body
Technically, it should be the Reach Reducer, not the Reach Extender.
Great to see you back Bob! It’s been a super long minute. I will say, if you have access to someone out east in Canada I see a few nice NGs on Kijiji at decent prices
I don’t use the Resch reducer. I think it would make a few riffs easier for sure but I’m really comfortable as is and otherwise.
That said, my long scale dingwalls still hang closer and more accessible then my 35” scale Spector by 1”
