Hey Nate! Can't wait to have a Dingwall that I can attach to that strap once again!!! Any thoughts on my dilemma? Have you played both a DROC and an NG3?

Oh, and there are a few of those NG3's available round these parts. Unfortunately I don't have any friends in Ontario. I haven't been over the border since before the pandemic. But I do plan to get over their again soon.

If you are looking for a Sixer John has something not listed you may want to reach out to him about.

I just went back and checked the photos on your strap. That was a cool finish. I hope it’s held up well for you. I need to find more time to play with that stuff.

one thing of note. I don’t know how the Droc would hang in comparison to a combustion/AB body style. May need a different strap for that.

Also, pre amp vs no pre amp?
All options sound amazing IMO. A combustions sounds like a versatile option for you that doesn’t naturally sit more aggressive like the NG. Of course all options are flexible enough to cop any style.

I could see you rockin one of these!!!

Nate, I much prefer alder to ash, and so I am not really considering the Combustion. I am not familiar with Khaya, but if it has similar properties to my old ABII which had a mahogany body, I do like that tone wood.

The one Combustion I would have grabbed would have been the Konkiel model. A combustion with an alder body and wenge board. One popped up on Ish guitars last Friday in Syracuse and it sold before I could get the $$ together.

As for the strap, if I end up with a DROC and it doesn't work well given the location of the strap pins, I will simply have to work toward getting another Dingwall that works with it! :smug:

for myself, if I got a combustion again an instant swap would be the DG to keep it familiar for my project. Nothing against the EMG just that for the band I’m in I try keeping the usable axes similar

I’ve got a 4” Italia strap, smooth black leather on top, blue suede on the underside. I use it for the Super and the Dbird. I just turn it over for the Dbird. The blue suede goes great with the blue purple color shift paint. The length works for both basses. No need to fuss with the strap locks.

I use a slightly shorter Italia for the AB-1 four string.

The Dbird hangs nicely on a strap, but it does roll out away from you. It does not neck dive at all. Perfect balance.

Basses with a upper horn to the 12th fret tend to lean back into the body, hence the belly cut.

The dbird hangs with the top slightly rolled out and away. You’ll see the back and top edge of the neck, but there is no fretboard gazing. Get some cool shades and leather pants for this bass, bring some attitude..

The Dbird is surprisingly comfortable sitting, once you get used to the body being under your elbow. My Dbird weighs 8.5 lb, but I see lighter weights being reported.

Amazing range of tones for a passive bass.

I use the flush mount strap lock on the back. It helps me so much that I just installed one on my Spector Dimension 5. Makes a world of difference as far as comfort for me.

The Nordstrand 2B is great for this if ya dont want to drill new holes or use a stack knob... its so close to working with a VTC - add a little bass, roll off that passive tone & turn up the treble knob just a hair more than the bass.. yum...
