Hello fellow Dingwall owners,

I just got a Combustion 5-string 3-pup with the DG preamp... everything is good except... the pickups are at different heights. The bridge pickup is about 2mm closer than the neck pup with the middle one in between. Shouldn't they all be the same distance from the strings?

No, because the strings are oscillating more as you go further away from the 12th fret harmonic, so if the neck pickup was as close to the strings as the bridge pickup it would be much louder than the bridge pickup.

EDIT TO ADD: the same pickup often won't sound best when both ends of the pickup are equidistant from the strings. Sometimes you need the G or B side a little higher or lower for good volume balance.

Does anyone know the skinny on what Dingwall's plan is moving forward with the new "simplified bridge" that is shown on the John Taylor model? I've read some info online that this bridge is going to be added to the import line? Just curious since I put in a deposit for a custom afterburner last week. If these bridges will be available as stock on the import line, it might change my thoughts regarding my order. Thanks!

The only mention I'm aware of was at namm and no definite time was given, just that it was in the works

That looks an awful lot like the D-Roc standard 5 string bridges.

I wish they would redo the 4-way rotary drop the bridge selection and replace it with D-ROC, all on. Then you effectively have a P, a J, a MM and a Dingwall special. I have a 6 way that can do that but I prefer the ease of turning of the 4-way. The 6 way that I have actually stripped the plastic/rubber from the metal part of the knob when I tried to turn it. But, other people probably love the bridge setting.
