It's absolutely phenomenal and beyond my expectations. The Z neck is something else.

I have said here before, my hand thinks and dreams about that Z neck so much sometimes that I can damn near feel it. My left hand gets excited and feels anticipation as I am grabbing that bass out of the rack. Never had anything like that before my Z

I present to you.. the newest member of the fam! I was almost shaking as we pulled it out of the bag today, lol. I'm beyond ecstatic. Jason shot some vid of the unboxing, he'll probably post that later. Ecliptic colorshift finish, it's a brilliant purple from the right angle, hard to photograph. Much deeper in blue/green color than the riddler finish he did, it looks green more than anything else. Jason shot the good pics, the lousy ones are from my phone, lol. Now, the real question.. which of my bands do I play this with??

also, play the snot outta it for weeks. Then put it down for a couple weeks. Play the snot outta your NG… love it….love the NG. then go back and play the Z again… trust me on this. You’ll love them both but…. It will make sooo much more sense.

Northern Ash/Alder w maple/wenge neck
SFII's and Glock pre
10.84 lbs. Majority of the weight is in the body, blances really nicely on a strap so far.

Its so thin front to back, yet feels so substantial. Wizardry, voodoo, black magic... something else is at work here.

Thanks Nate!! No going back now... I'm so digging the finish. I thought the purple was gonna be much more pronouced due to pics of the color online. Back of my mind I feared the green speedos were going to contrast too much - very pleasant suprise to see the green monster staring at me as I opened it up. If you look at just the right angle in light, the color is the most vibrant purple I've seen. It'll be hard to photograph but i'll try.

This is my first time driving a lambo so I don't know if I can provide the best answer.... BUT, the oddest thing to me on this bass is that it feels kinda like a 5 string neck - even though it's a 6'er. Its REALLY comfortable. Thinner front-to-back than the NG, yes... but doesn't feel like a super thin Ibanez neck or anything. Like I said above there is still this substantial feel... somehow . I played the red/yellow 5-string Z jason posted and it almost made me wish I got a 5'er instead, lolol... The Z neck just feels like you can play anything and never get tired.




EDIT: I should add this bass arrived IN TUNE from Canada to Temecula CA, where Jason's shop is.

please do. One of Jason’s photos show a pretty good indication of the hidden purple. That’s a glorious green though and goes awesome with those speedos.

Re: no going back now.. heheh. I understand. Mine is primary and always preferred bass BUT in regards to what I said earlier, it is a good refresher to jump back to the NG for a spell. Heck, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum I have my beefy Spector forte 6 which couldn’t feel more opposite from the Z.
One of the biggest things I notice every time I return to mine is the responsiveness playign the neck. It’s like it has custom performance suspension vs factory.

And it gets even better... It's not only a Super P, it's a PJ, and I'm betting it's not NG priced. Given it's passive, it should come below that, more in line with D-Roc pricing.

thanks for that. With over 2720 pages it was gonna be a trawl! I’ve previously owned a Super PZ5 and it is for my money the best modern reiteration of the P bass from any builder. This news fills me with much joy!

The new Z is off the chain.. still finding my "voice" on it. I am finding myself using passive more than active - has anyone flipped the wiring on the glock pre so that "pull" is active, "push" is passive? I really don't want to make a mistake anywhere and end up bending the pot shaft. Is it even possible? I haven't opened it up yet and looked to see whats going on under the hood...

Being a serial buyer/seller of Dingwalls I've owned enough to know I prefer them passive.

I got the 6 way switch put the in Z today. Pretty good so far. I haven't really gotten a chance to dig in by myself. Only played it at rehearsal earlier.

As for your wiring question. You should be able to reverse it. I believe the push/pull is essentially a switch.

I'm not a big wiring guy though.

Heyo DOC folks! For those of you that have replaced the bridge, why did you do so? And with what? I've been looking at the Payson bridge, but also noticed some folks using the Babicz (I think) replacement as well.

I swapped ot the Babicz, lighter (I think like 4oz if I recall, some people wouldn't notice or care either way), more comfortable (my hand would run the stock ones weird when I was palm muting, mght just be me and my giant grizzly mits though...), crazy easy to setup. I've been using them on all my basses for awhile now.

Would have tried the Payson, I heard is was a direct replacement with no modifications. I had done the Babicz first which does require new holes.

I think the comfort was worth it.

I think RevOgre really nailed it. Some folks find the stock saddles to be a bit uncomfortable to palm mute on, others don't like how you adjust the stock bridge. And then there are folks that just don't like the look of the individual bridges, either for being single-string monorail types, or because they're swapping hardware for solid black instead of black chrome.

3X SF2s arrived today. Now the question is whether I should finish my current run of gigs with FDVs, which I know work great, or take a risk and switch them out for SF2s since I have the weekend off.
