I love the magic the glock brings but I do find it very very subtle when set flat compared to passive. It’s a delicate addition IMO compared to the Darkglass which adds its flavour when engaged. Period.
If I had a passive long scale I may be able to camp on both side but I’ve come back to the reality I’m not in need of 3 medium scales and my SP is gonna be getting rehomed… probably the SJP as well. I’ll keep one super but the reality is I always go for long scale.My feet are in both camps. I totally dig my passive SP-4. My AB I-4, SJ/P-4, and SJ-5 have glock preamps that are always on, tone controls at their detents. They are all tone monsters.

Happily trending in my own peculiar direction.
I went short scale and have settled more on medium scale (currently a 5 string Spector). I see a medium multi scale in my future...
We all have our comforts. Spectors are great. Dingwall’s…. Well, that’s personal taste. I have one Spector. I have 8 Dingwalls.
Just curious - What is the current wait time now on a custom build? Last I checked last Spring, the wait was almost 3 years. Has that improved?
To a certain point. In passive the cable adds his own capacitance to the circuit and always greatly influences the tone (the longer the duller); in active the preamp acts as a buffer and minimizes this interaction, leading to a clearer tone whatever the cable length.
You can probably hear it when using a 30 or even a 15ft vs a 3ft cable.
The only thing more transparent that the Glockenklang IME, is the Redeemer Buffer from Creative audio labs. The buffering helps retain a full signal when lowering volume on a passive bass. I've used them on a couple of instruments with good effect.
I placed a custom order back in September, and the same timeline estimate was given as when I ordered my first custom in late 2018. In both cases I was told 18-24 months since my dealer had open build slots available each time. It might be longer if the dealer doesn’t have an open build slot. My first custom arrived right at 18 months.
My guess is they are pushing that 3 yr mark right now for new build slots. Hopefully over the next year they find the ability to somehow increase production.
Not sure if things have improved or not, but my Z6 build should be due in about 4 weeks. I ordered it July of 2021 on a 9 month build slot for a total of 3.25 years if it arrives when expected.
Build was finalized 5 months ago and I was quoted 6 months from then.
Bear in mind I ordered during the global pandemic so I’m sure that factored into the longer wait. They’ve been working hard to speed that up since then.

Hello people! What model Dingwall would you say go with Spector Euros (build and quality wise). I would love to have a bass with fanned frets and being a big fan of Sklar, a Dingwall have all ways been intriguing

My first custom was ordered pre-pandemic (November 2018) and arrived a few months into the pandemic (May 2020), for a grand total of 18 months. I suspect that if I had placed my order even a few months later it would have extended the delivery time by a greater amount.

Having had many Euros and USA Spectors - (the Euro's are incredible btw)..I would say you would get along well with any of the Import models - they would be of similar QC and hardware/woods.Hello people! Getting into the Canadian models would be like getting into the USA NS2 highest optioned out Spector's - in comparison to the Euro's.
Always good to get your feet wet on a $3K bass than a $7K bass IMO...
Also....anyone have pix of their 4 string Super PJ's kickin around? I may be about to do something crazy...thinkin about maple board.....
