IIRC, some of the first-gen Bubinga ABHS were coming in around 13lb. Now, that's a chunky monkey!

But I will definitely do a custom order at some point, was more thinking about a super J but I already have 2 ABs. And 2 (non-dingwall) full bubinga basses

My memory isn't what it should be, so this is all IIRC, but...

I believe that later ABHS's were weight-relieved, and came in around 10lb. Not my thing, but not unmanageable for all you healthy types!

My ABHS comes in just under 10 lbs. Not so “S”. Fantastic sustain.

Can someone help me understand this? It's mostly the D string from the nickel set that seems out of place.
There must be some historical reason as to why the nickel set is all multiples of 5 and the SS is not (but looks more logical, at least on paper and by looking at the curve).

I’m not really sure what the point of that chart is without the tension on it, and that is probably where you will find your answer.

Hey, Dingwall enthusiasts... infrequent poster, avid reader here. My story is this: after falling in love with a Super J5, I placed an order for a Super P4. It was originally slated for a November '23 build. In anticipation of that bass' arrival, I took the plunge and got a fretless P4 to go with it. Then I found out that my build isn't actually going to be done until next year. I was hoping that simultaneous practice on the fretted P4 and the fretless P4 would help me with the challenge of the fanned fretless situation, so I was in a bit of a bind. Fortunately, John Fox came through for me and sold me a gorgeous fretted P4 that, by a stroke of amazing luck, came available at just the right time. So, in the last month or so, I've acquired these two beauties. I'm loving them both and I'm super stoked!

Thanks! The neck is actually roasted ash + ebony fretboard. It's delicious!

Your chart doesn’t tell you anything meaningful about the strings. In fact, it’s more like a list forced into a chart. If you had the frequency of each note, that would be a chart. But gauge x arbitrary letter is not a useful chart.

What’s important is scale length and string gauge.

And you’re talking about Dingwall, so trying to reason any choices by historical reasons is kind of weird.

Whoever makes Dingwall’s strings uses gauges that end up with balanced tension across the whole neck.

Quick question: Is that a standard tort pickguard on your Super P or something else entirely? It really pops!

The tort is, as far as I know, standard. I didn't spec the build, but I do have the build sheet, and it's on there as a "TS - Tortoise Shell" pickguard.

It is a nice one... looks great with the dark neck!

I did. So now I have some funds to raise... some monoscale basses will be leaving at some point before then, I'm thinking!

The Tort is an upgrade. It’s over twice the price of a B/W/B P/g which is an upgrade over the single ply Black stock P/g.

This one just has so untypically many yellow "sparks" in the material - I really like it, and I rarely like torts.
