It’s a nice Fender(one of the nicest)… I’ve never met a fender B string that I’ve liked but some sure are nice looking and sound great(on the other strings)
there is definitely something up with that bridge pick up though on your NG.
Is there a chance that it’s missing the rubber tubing underneath the pick up screws or something? Or is it rigidly set like that? Is it leaning(tilted) towards the bridge or is that just an optical illusion? Did you buy it new or used?
I’m surprised that it would pass dingwall QC like that and that I have so many questions for you in one post. Lol.
Good eye. I did not notice this until you pointed it out. I don't think Dingwall would let it out of the shop like that.
It was discussed a few posts back but it seems works from this angle.
I actually think it’s related to the top of the pick guard and maybe the bottom too but definitely the top looks like it’s putting pressure on the pick up.
I agree, it’s not quite in line with the other pickups, and doesn’t fit into the curve of the pickguard. Would it bug me enough to do anything about it? Not likely.
However, it might be an easy fix. Maybe the bolt is bent, or the insert wasn’t installed straight. Sometimes the inserts aren’t solid. (I think I have this issue on my Dbird, I’d like to lower the pup, but it just spins without going down.). I haven’t bothered to dig into it, it’s close enough for me.
You might find that the insert comes out with the bolt. That could be an easy fix, just a bit of epoxy to secure the insert straight in the hole. Glue, get your alignment while it’s wet, let it kick off. Then do any height adjustment to test the fix. Don’t get epoxy on the bolt or inside the threaded insert. Put wax on the bolt and in the insert to be safe.
I’ve also threaded pickup bolts right into the hardwood body, no insert needed. Just get a tap to match the bolt and the right bit to pilot.
If it needs a new hole and the holes would overlap, filling the old hole with an epoxy and cabosil slurry would let you drill and tap for a fresh start.
If you try to adjust the treble side of that pickup, and it won’t go up or down, the insert is the likely culprit. The problem with inserts, (or helicoils, as they are know in the ski industry) is that if the bolt is slightly too long, you can bottom it out, give it bit more muscle, and strip the outside threads on the coil. The bolt is stuck, and the coil spins. The advantage to tapping the hardwood is that the hole can be quite a bit deeper than the bolt needs to go. Just don’t drill through the body. Way more range or adjustment.

Looks like it’s sitting on top of the top rear corners on the two front P/ups to me.

I bought the bass used off of reverb. Great deal and other than this issue (which I didn't really notice), there isn't a mark on the bass so I can't and won't complain
The pickguard does intrude on the bridge pickup position but both pickguards are not actually touching the pickup. Whether or not this was something the previous owner did, I'm not sure. Looking at pictures of other Dingwalls the pickguard does not interfere with the pickup as much as mine does. The pickguard mounting holes are original.
No screws are bent and while the screws do have play within their inserts the pickups should flatten out when tightened. The screws do have their silicone tubes in place. They are fairly compressed so I may replace those too.
The main problem on my bass is the foam under the pickups is not flat anymore. The middle and neck pickups lean towards each other (which is why they are so close to one another) and the bridge pickup leans away from the center pickup. I've order new foam but in the mean time I made sections of foam to flatten the pickups.
I will be removing the pickups completely and will measure the insert mounting distance between pickups and if necessary will remove, fill, drill and epoxy new inserts for the bridge pickup.
For now its okay but I will be correcting this.

Your method for sorting it out sounds just right, just FYI my old combustion looked like this when I upgraded it form 2x to 3x so this could be the same with yours especially if it was used.
I can't find a really clear picture but you can sorta see on this one that the spacing is not fully even:
My Dingwalls do not have foam underneath the pickups, they all have tubes on the screws instead. I thought all of them were like that.

That looks better. If it were mine, I’d probably leave it as is and not do any surgery apart from replacing the tubes and/or foam.

Really like that middle one.Your method for sorting it out sounds just right, just FYI my old combustion looked like this when I upgraded it form 2x to 3x so this could be the same with yours especially if it was used.
I can't find a really clear picture but you can sorta see on this one that the spacing is not fully even:
that looks way better. Glad it was an easy fix/adjustment. I don’t imagine you should have to replace the inserts. Some fresh tubing and you should be good to go. Fwiw. I don’t recall foam under any of my pick ups either…. I’ve had a few Dingwalls.
It was a long time ago but mine had foam under the pickups, now what I don't remember if it was 1) came like that from the factory 2) The new pickup I bough shipped with foam 3) I added it cos the pickup was on the wonk like the one above and the gap annoyed me.
I have a feeling and vague recollection that some of the older imports didn't have the surgical tubing but I may be entirely mistaken.
Any chance anyone has a recent pricelist in CAD kicking around? Normally I would email but I suspect the shop will be slammed with Namm just around the corner and I wont get a reply for a couple weeks.
My SJ was the same when I did my recent pickup swap. No foam, just plastic/rubber tubes.

When I installed a new pickguard on a Super J, even though it was factory, I still needed to do a bit of filing and sanding in a few spots to get it as good as I could make it.
