My SJ5XXX has an FD3, Ptone and FDV, easy to reverse mods.

In which respective positions did you put them?

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of feedback on these cabs other than the weight.

oh I’ve seen that one way to many times to not have almost talked myself into it.
These old hand sculpted necks are amazing.

I love the FD3 solo neck position, deep but not muddy. I had previously put an FDV in the bridge position of a SPJ5, and while I felt it was an improvement, still not useable solo; however, great middle position solo, some growl, nice and vintage sounding. IMO, the Ptone at the bridge brings more punch to that position, and can be useful solo'd. I'll probably go EADGC with the SJ5XXX when I start struggling with 34" scales (so far only War Pigs is getting more challenging).

I know the seller and it keeps tempting me but I couldn’t live with the Bart’s. Modding it is a non starter of course

And the funny thing is I’d consider it as a mod platform. Not sure what mods. Maybe some Nordstrom’s shells would fit or something. Ideally not a mod that would require routing

I’ve not played this one no, I spose a set of Nordstrands wouldn’t run that much extra. Hmmmm

I’ve been looking at that for months too and it’s within driving distance but the older my fretting thumb gets, the less it likes wider 5 string necks which makes me think a long scale (preferably Canadian) DW in BEAD might be the way to go.

Thanks. Did you compare the FD3 to the P-tone on the neck position? And what did you have initially on the bridge before trying FDV and P- tone?

No, I was very happy with the FD3 in the neck position, don't fix it if it ain't broke. The bass came with 3 FD3s when I ordered it, because there weren't a lot of options in 2015. I may still try a Super Fattie some time, not because a change is needed, just because; but honestly, it's great as is.

Idk I'm pretty happy with my ABZ 5 as is. I considered swapping in the 6-way rotary switch but honestly I haven't felt the need to. I guess the folks at Dingwall know how to make a perfect bass better than I do!

I have a few days off work, bass back at home... I've been doing nothing but playing around with plugins. I've been testing out different Ampeg stuff and so far my favourite has been the B15N or whatever it's called. Some old school tube thing, from what I've gathered the sucker is legendary.

The beauty of the digital route is you aren’t limited by the whopping 30 watts of power the B 15. All the good stuff with none of the weight or maintenance or volume issues.
