Got a lot of questions on the specs on my bass.
I bought it in April 2023 from Morten at Bass Budhha. Morten got it from a collector in Denmark. It was part of a collection. Highly recommend Morten to find you top quality gear.
It's a 2011 Z3 Quilted Bubinga. Buginga top wood, Wenge body line, Dual Density ash body, Walnut neck, and Ziricote fretboard. I string the bass Low E to high C. Rest of spec is pretty standard for 2011. (I assume...I am no expert).

A couple questions or thoughts
-I believe your pick ups would be SF1 unless they are something specially crafted. That pick up shell only came as an SF1 IIRC.
-how black is that contrast layer? Hard to tell from the pics. The fretless that was just discussed and my old prima Z from the same era had a ponderosa pine contrast layer. It was more black then wenge.
- and going out on a limb here but I can’t help but wonder if that is a redwood not bubinga. Sheldon had many beautiful redwood tops during that era too.
I'm not sure about the pickups. This is my first Dingwall and still learning.
I also thought it was redwood and wasn't sure of the contrast layer. I sent pictures and serial number to Sheldon's team. They confirmed the woods were as described from the build sheet.
Though....i still think it's redwood! Lol.
Has anyone here ever built a ramp or pickup covers acting as radiused ramp for their Z3's?

not intending to knock the DW team but I think some of the office staff is missing some historical info and they may be making assumptions or guesses based on photos like I am doing. That statement alone is an assumption on my part but I have experienced mis-info from them in the past including on IG posts.
The man himself would be one of the few I would trust for factual details on “classic” Dingwall’s.
Can you post a better pic of the contrast layer. I don’t trust myself enough to dispute the top being redwood or bubinga but a solid photo of that layer I’d feel very correct about. The ponderosa pine looks very different then wenge when seen up close.
On a three pickup bass, where would the ramp go? Traditionally they go between neck and bridge pickups on a two pickup bass. Are you thinking of one between the end of the neck and the neck pickup?
I believe this was an older 1 off dingwall did.

I'm thinking of exactly what AB Nate posted above. I wonder if I could commission Dingwall to build me one?
I could take my DROC back to EADG and get a combustion 37" four to use in D standard/ drop C!
Considering the build time and waitlist, it's highly unlikely. They've cut back on experimenting for custom orders outside of finishes and inlays because one off things require a lot of hands on work to design, test, and implement.
Looks cool as hell, though.
In other news, I'm considering placing an order for a custom. I miss having a long scale 5.
Has anyone ordered through The Bass Shop in Seattle? My last order (the shell pink AB1) was through John Fox while I was in Los Angeles because he had an open build slot with a pretty quick (9 months at the time) turnaround.
I have. Once for my SJ which I have, and once for my SP which is still being built, though I doubt it’s gone into production yet.
