Are you thinking 5 string fretless for your Dingwall?

In a somewhat depressing note...the CDN$ is turning into the CDN Pesos compared to the US$. I hope I can still afford it when/if the time comes.

I didn’t even think of a fretless Dingwall…yet.

yikes. I don’t know what’s going on with exchange rates. I feel like I just need to get my passport renewed and drive up to Canada to try some of Sheldon’s 5 stringed children and stop at U.S. users along the way.

Do you have the DG or Glock pre?

My story is similar.

I had already wanted to try a Dingwall. Someone offered a NG3 as a partial trade towards a Muckelroy I was selling.

I figured, if I don't like it, I know I can easily sell it. A bright blue 6 string Muckelroy is a bit tougher to sell. So I took it.

And man, I REALLY liked that bass. I did eventually sell it, but it's lead to quite a few other Dingwalls that I've been fortunate enough to be the custodian of.

They all eventually lead to a custom Z3 that will be with me forever.

he doesn’t unfortunately. I almost grabbed it when he had it but it didn’t suite my needs at the time. It would have gone along with my Prima Z very nicely but I ultimately ended up selling that one too.

I feel like a Z with SFII pickups and Glock pre will get you a spot-on idea of what the sklar sounds like. I’m not certain that the body wood is a huge influence on the sound. And the smaller fret wire won’t affect tone, probably.

Great video.

Makes me think about a DROC and a Z.
I really love the shape of the DROC. A 5er with a d-tuner would be fantastic. Or a Z 5 with a d-tuner.

Does anyone own or has owned both to give me some comparison on the thickness of the Body on these two? DROC vs Z?

The DROC is so so cozy for me. I wonder if a Z would be a good fit, too.

Got a lot of questions on the specs on my bass.

I bought it in April 2023 from Morten at Bass Budhha. Morten got it from a collector in Denmark. It was part of a collection. Highly recommend Morten to find you top quality gear.

It's a 2011 Z3 Quilted Bubinga. Buginga top wood, Wenge body line, Dual Density ash body, Walnut neck, and Ziricote fretboard. I string the bass Low E to high C. Rest of spec is pretty standard for 2011. (I assume...I am no expert).
