Dingwall Owners Club

Not a Dingwall owner but have been admiring for years. I’ve been into Sklar basses for a while but can never find good videos of them with anyone but Lee playing. Obviously, he’s the best to hear, but I want hear how other players sound. Just like if I wanted a NG, I want to hear what a totally different player than Nolly would do with it.

Also, this Chalk color is fire.

It really was nice. I liked how the headstock kept the stripe thing going. The white/teal Z was beyond sexy in person. :drool:

Got to talk to Sheldon for a bit the 2nd time I went back by. Super chill dude.

I was pumped when I found out the rhythm section was the legendary duo of Leeland Sklar and Russ Kunkell. The band had 15 performers including two from the Muscle Shoals horns, jazz professors on sax, a trio of tight backing vocals, guitar, mandolin/acoustic, pedal steel, fiddle, and piano. Every one of them was such a talented pro. The opera house has great acoustics and we had good center section seats in the 5th row back. They put on a 2 1/2 hour performance with so many moods, musical styles, and inspiring solos woven together with interesting stories and humor. The evening was memorable.
Leeland was playing his gold signature Dingwall and one of the few who didn’t take a solo, but he didn’t need to. I love his approach to the bass. His playing was so solid and tasteful, with great grooves, spot on dynamics, and excellent tone. The sound was very well balanced so you could hear the nuances of every player. It would have made a great live recording.
Only problem is now I’m thinking of upgrading my D-ROC 5 Custom order to a Sklar. It was that good.

He plays fantastic bass, but the question is: IS he or is he not wearing a tie?

I’m getting ready to replace my NG6 tuners with black Hipshots (including an Xtender) and was comparing USA vs Licensed. Thought I’d drop my findings here in case it may help you make the right purchasing decision as it did for me.

On a 6-string bass, the weight savings of going with USA is equivalent to 1 less Licensed tuner! If you’re like me and getting the Xtender, getting the USA version would mitigate all of the weight gain of that bulky key plus some.

The deets (taken from Hipshot website, except Xtender which I found on a German website as I couldn’t find it on Hipshot):

Licensed 3/8”: 1.78oz/each x 6 = 10.68oz.
USA 3/8”: 1.49oz/each x 6 = 8.94
USA Xtender 3/8”: 2.36oz/each

Total 5x Licensed + Xtender = 11.26oz.
Total 5x USA + 1x Xtender = 9.81oz

Weight diff going from 6x Licensed to USA = -1.74oz (~1 Licensed tuner)

Weight diff going from 6x Licensed to 5x USA + 1x Xtender = -0.87oz.

Weight diff adding the Xtender to 5x Licensed = +0.58oz.
