Nice bass, can we have the specs. Looks like two very different woods on the main body.
I feel like I won the lottery every time I pick it up. Here are the specs.
-Passive 3x Voodoo (cello hip)
-Figured Maple/ Figured Walnut core
-Flame Maple/ Wenge contrast layers
-Flame Walnut top
-Maple neck
-Zircote fingerboard
-Matching headstock

Boy was it nice to finally get back on stage. Can't get enough of hearing a Dingwall through a nice PA.

I played the 500w version over the weekend and was blown away by how good it sounded. I wish I could get the same tone out of my Helix.
Why not? I'm pretty sure it's still an option if ya got the dough for it.My build slot is coming up. I wonder if I can get a cello cut Z? Probably not!
Anyone ever experience a dead spot on a Dingwall Super J 5-string? I know that it was a fairly common problem on Fender's, so since the Super J is Dingwall's modern take I suspect it might have something to do with the body style....
At any rate, I seem to be experiencing a dead spot on the high C# & D notes of the A string. I'm pretty bummed about it. Sigh.
I will say though that this bass exceeds expectation in every other regard.

I have not. I did experience a lack of clarity on the B string due to a neck bolt that was not tight enough. It wouldn't hurt to check yours.
I might be wrong (still a bass newb), but it probably has something to do with vibrations in the neck/headstock cancelling out the vibrations of the string. So perhaps a slight truss rod adjustment or putting some weight on the headstock (like a capo) could help.

No lack of clarity on the B string on this bass, but I had the same experience with my Dingwall KK3.
Yea, I'm familiar with the physics of what's happening, as well as the common remedies. I just want to see if others have had the same experience. It's a real bummer to have this sort of issue on a brand new high-end bass, but if it's something others have experienced I may just have to live with it, but if this is an abberation I may be contacting Sweetwater/Dingwall to get this remedied as I have zero desire to add a Capo or FatFinger to the headstock.

I hate to add to this but yes I have. I’ve experienced it on the high C area of the D string more so on Long scales and it forced me to learn certain passages elsewhere on the fingerboard. That said, if that is the ONLY drawback I experience I came to the conclusion to work around it.
I feel no mater what brand, model, bass, there may always be a compromise on perfection and the playability, clarity, etc. win out over any other compromise I ever had to make on any other basses.
Yep, I like the FD3n pickup but the P-tone just sounds 'gooder' to me and the difference in sound is hard to describe (I wish they would bring back the pickup samples on the site). If you do it make sure you wire it series to avoid disappointment.
Never noticed a dead spot on my Super P5. If it’s there, it’s in a location where it doesn’t get in the way of my playing. When I plug in later, I'm going to play each fret and try to figure out where it is, because every instrument has a dead spot somewhere from what I understand, sometimes it's just off the end of the fretboard so you never play it.
