I don't know that the pickup location as a percentage of scale length remains the same across the five strings (probably does), but using measurements of the G string side (34" scale), comparing it to the distance between frets, and comparing that to my J basses,

-the Combustion bridge pickup is about in the same place as the 70s spacing J
-the D-Roc's bridge pickup is a little farther from the bridge than the 60s spacing J

So, could you tell me how an FD-3N compares to a typical J pickup please?

EDIT: I mean how the sound compares.
Sounds like a pickup.

It's kind of apples to oranges because you've got a huge difference in the pickup construction (a split rail vs. a single coil J) and magnet type (FD3n = neodymium vs. J are usually Alnico). Then the difference in the basses themselves and there;s just no real comparing.

You can fart like Jaco just fine on a Dingwall with FD3n pickups. But it can also sound, you know, good.

Nope, it doesn't.
Look at the increasing angle of the frets as you move toward the heel of the neck, and the even bigger angle at the saddles. Then see that although the pickups are angled, that angle isn't nearly sharp enough to maintain this "pickup location as a percentage of scale length ... across the strings"; the top is relatively farther from the bridge.

I don't want to try to give exact answers now, but it appears that on a Combustion 5-string,
bridge pickup - G string end like a J 70s spacing, B string end is farther from the bridge, as a percentage of the scale length, than a J 60s spacing.
neck pickup - G string end about where the Ric bridge pickup is, B string end is about as far from the bridge, as a percentage of the scale length, as the centerline of a P pickup.

On a D-Roc 5 string neck pickup,
G string end about where the P bass E-A half sits
B string end is farther from the bridge than a J bass neck pickup.

To give you more certain answers I'd have to arrange a better photo to stretch all the way across my monitor.
Of course the management could tell us exactly, if they were to choose to grace us with this info.

Someone from Dingwall once said that the coils being arranged in a reverse-P configuration within the soapbar housing counteracts the differing angle of the pickups.
