Dingwall Owners Club

Ask him if Prima Artists are "back on the menu" as it were, please :)
Yes they are! The Primas went back into production at the beginning of 2024. They will all be built from the bottom up by our two master builders, Paul Hillacre and Simon Padalka. The second Prima of the year is currently in production. There will be a limited number of them built per year so production times won't be affected. We're all very excited about it!

Amazing!! If you can, photos would be awesome to see. And a price list (in DM maybe?) for them since it's not on the usual one? :D

Simon Padalka is an amazing artist and it’s super cool he has joined your ranks there in stoon.

Yeah, I can't stop looking at these. They're amazing.
What pickups / pres are in each? Are they twinsies still or going to make one unique from the other?

I do have a LHZ preamp incoming to put in the left one and I’ll probably put in a 5 way switch but that’ll be it for now.
Maybe make the left one fretless and sell my other fretless!!! Said that half joking.

The one on the right was and still is my dream bass. It is my favourite bass to play. It feels amazing. Nothing feels better. The wenge and maple makes me very happy.
The “new” one is virtually identical. I haven’t had a chance to go back and forth yet. I don’t believe I’ll be looking to rehome “mine” on the right until I no longer play.
As for other minor and alterable differences, Currently lefty has dingwall Nickels and righty has Payson SS.
Left is FD3, right FDV. Right also has a couple of switches and what looks like an EMG knob on the pickup switch.

not quite.
Left is FDV
Right is FD3 w toggles.

they both have custom six ways
The dingwall knob didn’t fit the six way in the right and it has a tone pump knob on it. I actually really like the function of these knobs. Maybe one day I’ll do some custom knobs but I having felt inclined to focus on that yet… I haven’t seen something that screams I should do so either thankfully.

Well,

I had a very cool weekend and there was some dingwall content.
Dingwall trade content to be specific. ..

The crazy things we sometimes do.

I didn’t think these 2 would ever actually be united.

Dooooooooooood :drool::drool:

That is just awesome. What organ did you trade for that? ;):roflmao: Nice pickup!

Be aware the LHZ preamp takes up a little bit of real estate. I just installed one two weeks ago. It definitely needs more space than say.. a DGTC or something similar, just due to the design.

Is that the V3?

Thats a really good question. The client I installed it for said he just recently bought it off Ebay. I also had to order new EQ pots from LHZ off Ebay as well - the stock ones have super short threads. I dont know if you can specify at ordering. Here's the difference between what showed up and the EMG Vol pot. We used EMG pickups/LHZ preamp.

These prewired ones will only work with a plate. there's no way to attach them to a body.

EDIT: I searched high and low from many vendors for the right EQ pots until I discovered the LHZ listing for the pots on Ebay. They seem to know its nearly impossible to find them, they charge quite a bit. $26 for two eq pots after shipping.

Good to know. That’s the first I’ve heard of this with that pre amp.

Even when you take that nut and washers off it’s too short?

oddly those don’t look like the pots on the website.

yeah, they were way short. At least for the particular body I was working on. No threads came even close to poking out of the top. The Emg pot had plenty of threads on top with a locking washer inside.. I've never seen a prewired preamp from anyone with pot shafts like this.. Imagine my surprise when I was in "assembly" mode :roflmao:

:woot: That's quite exorbitant...
The pots themselves weren't that bad.. it was $12 for pots and the only shipping option was $13 + change.

I may end up pairing one with some EMGs either in my ABZ or Spector but I’m really curious to hear it with the FDVs first.

check these pots on the website.

It sounded sick in this Double P. Yeah the new design preamp is the one I worked on except it had quick connects for the eq, battery, jack. First time i had to drill pot holes in a raw body, happy when that was done  :nailbiting: :roflmao:

When I was testing afterwards i was thinking the whole time "what would this sound like with FD3's??" ... I can imagine it would be fantastic! It will probably sound great with FDV's.
