They blend quite well together, a little more meat to the tone but not radically different. I checked with Dingwall tech before going this way.

Do you find them smoother? I definitely did as they rounded out the tone they pulled the bite and aggression out too.

A little bit but I wouldn't call the pairing "polite". The SFII also has a little higher output which is nice.

It depends on what pick ups you are looking to get for what bass.

If they are the large rounded shells (FD3,FDV,SF2 or P tone(4-5 string)) which are the most current(all basses since 2018 IIRC) and available then it’s quite easy through a dealer or dingwall direct.

If you are looking at a bass with SF1s then SF1s are the only option. Skinny rounded shells

If you are looking at something with EMG square shells then EMGs or possible finding some thru dingwall direct or on the used market is pretty much your only way to go on those.

If it’s got FD1s or Barts then….. barts… or maybe dingwall would make a custom set. Maybe.

I’d assume they will still accommodate the special requests if possible, Ie square shells. Topics that need special care but not stackable items.

It was in like, 2021, but back then the wouldn't make a 5 string square shell PTone, fwiw. I don't blame them one bit; I wouldn't want to either. They may not even have the molds or anything anymore, and it'd be work that would interrupt other modern pickups from being made.

From what I recall they have remnants kicking around and if you get lucky with your request they may find a hidden artifact for you.

lol. As did I. Then I threw the EMGs in it. I still have the FD3s and a P tone!!!

Hey all. I recently traded for a Dingwall Super J5. The serial number is 4208. What’s odd is that when I sent the SN to Dingwall, they had specs for a Super P…and…another Dingwall on here was sold way back, a different Super J with the 4208 SN. Anyone know how they worked these SN back in the day? I’m super confused.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you're basically saying there's 3 Dingwalls with the same serial number - two Super Js, and a Super P? Can you post links/photos?

I have a 2010 that is 43XX, FWIW.

Interesting. I wonder what's actually stamped in the neck pockets of all three of those. Since the tool sets both say 4208 Natural, my inclination would be that it's the actual 4208, and the others are misdocumented.

I can’t make out a serial number on the headstock. It’s usually right at the top.
