Searching 'dingwall 4208' on TB has that olympic white one listed twice. One pic from the original listing has the headstock and it seems like the second digit is a 3? But it's not at all visible in most of the pics of the headstock for it nor @ZombiiBass.
My guess is that some intern working was putting 4208 on all the tool bags one drunk friday afternoon.

Finally heard back from Dingwall again. Looks like the others listed probably misread their SN’s.

Thanks for reaching out, Our records only show one Custom Shop bass with the serial number 4208. Could the other bass be from the Ready to play line(Combustion/NG)? Here are the specs for Custom Shop bass.

-S/N 4208
-Super J
-5-string
-Swamp Ash body
-Natural gloss finish
-2-band active preamp
-Maple neck
-Maple fingerboard
-Block inlays
-Completion date, October 7th 2009

Bloodmoon Z, 2021 - 5 string, wenge neck/fretboard, swamp ash body, buckeye burl X top, FD3 w/ Glock (2x pickups) : 8.8lbs
Prima Artist unsure year - 5 string, usual multi lam neck, dual density body, amazing X top and back, PA pickups, Glock pre (2x pickups) : 9.4lbs

Once we’re all done with the move, I’m probably going to start the ball rolling on a new Canadian D.

I just got a Combustion 5 CB2 delivered. I took it out briefly for inspection and must say it's a well-finished instrument. However, I plugged it in a table-top amp (Yamaha THR10II) to test the electronics and found the treble control had little to no effect to my ear. Is it supposed to be noticeable or more subtle?

Small fits on my NG3, I assume it's the same for a Combustion. I had to order a set from Germany, couldn't find them in the USA.

I was a Dingwall owner for about a week, D-ROC standard 4 string, then sold because the thing neck gave me hand cramps.

Question for the initiated who have tried the custom builds vs the Indonesian builds. How much difference is there in the build quality?

Are the Dingwall built instruments $4000 superior to the imports?

The D-ROC I played for a week felt like a toy. I loved the weight, but still didn’t give me the solid build quality I have on some of my other basses.

I used to think that (substantial weight equaled more solid and quality), but I don't think that anymore. My shoulder cannot take 3+ hours at gigs that a heavy and/or unbalanced bass will give.

I don't know about the Z's or Prima's, but there is the law of diminishing returns once you get in the upper range models. That's true of just about any brand or model. A $4000 bass is not twice as good as a $2000. That being said, the Canadian models do feel like they are higher quality and more refined. I wouldn't necessarily say better; different.

I'll chime in as I've owned a Prima 5 and a Zebra 6 (back when it had the hip) and I've played the newer basses as well (AB2, Z3, Combustion).

The Canadian basses are better, but $4000 better is a question I think only you can answer. The components are better, the fit and finish is better. Does it play better? Does it sound better? Hard to answer. The bridge on the Sklar, Z and Prima is probably my favourite bridge of any bass I've played. Would I pay $4000 more? Yes. If I were getting another Dingwall, it would be a Sklar 5 or a Z 6 string.

From what I have seen, the D-Rocs hang best in a certain position - the body low and the neck going up at a fairly steep angle. I hear it is comfortable, if you are playing the first 10 frets or something like that.

The Combustion/NG imports, Canadian AB designs and Z/Sklar/Prima should all be able to hang in other ways that may feel more natural to you and your wrist.
