Bass arrives in Germany, Customs look into it, check internet for prices, calculate tax and customs rate (about 23% of the bass' price). Bass goes to customs office where i have to pay to get it handed out.
Everything outside EU is just too expensive because of that,

Nah i wouldn't buy it because of the limited run, but because i like it.

All my Ritters are 1 of 1, but the rarity is not why i got them.

Also i wouldn't mind the extra money going to the Luthier/company,, but tax on an instrument that has already been taxed. I don't support my country like that

Imagine the bass being flipped 4 times this way. Tax and customs would exceed the actual price of the bass...

That's the tough problem if you are not CONUS. And that also means, you can only sell at a huge loss. So I don't sell. I hoard

But I agree. With only 25 on the wild, getting one will probably mean sacrificing money and principles.

Inside the shell, there are single-coil pickups in a 'reverse-P' configuration and yes, they buck hum.

I got "the email" from JFB that my slot was coming up and I need to start planning options!

I have a really killer Walnut Burl X-Top reserved at the moment. It is a dark piece of wood though. Not sure if I want to add any type of transparent burst over it, keep it natural, or scrap it and go with a different top with some sort of color on it. I didnt really expect my slot to come up this quickly. Maybe JFB slid me in to an existing spot he had reserved. Anyway, here is the top I have on hold at the moment:

About 9 months! He must have had a reserved slot already that he placed me in

I would feel pretty guilty putting color over this top I think. I think my two options are 1. Use this top and stay all natural or 2. if I must have color, scrap the top for something else.

John is going to inquire with the painter and get their two cents.

According to JFB website Dingwall build slots are now based the date of your deposit, and they can no longer be reserved. Which makes me wonder why you only waited 9 months.:
Delivery date will be determined by Dingwall's schedule, and is not able to be controlled by John Fox Bass. To be fair to all dealers and all customers, Dingwall is now building basses in order based on the date the customer deposit was paid, regardless of which dealer took the order. There are no more "pre-reserved" build slots.

Looking for some advice. I strictly play bass at church, so contemporary worship (rock music). I don’t play metal and prefer a more traditional sound but love Dingwall for their playability and that tone on the B string. I own a 5 string NG3 with darkglass preamp and it has done well for the last 3 years but my build slot for a new Z3 is finally here. I want the z3 to have a more neutral sound, and be less aggressive than the NG3.

My dealer has helped me but I am wanting some further input from you all. So far I have picked:

Z3 5 string
-Wenge Neck/fretboard
-Neve preamp
-FDV and par/series toggles
-Body wood (undecided)

Is this a good profile for a neutral sound? Any suggestions?

Getting away from the Darkglass pre is a good first step, IME. I have not played an instrument with the Neve pre. My experience has been with the Glockenkland two and three-band pre. From what I've heard online, the Neve is less 'aggressive' than the Darkglass. I do like the FDV pickups. I like the sound of AlNico V pickups in general. My only full-scale Dingwall is a Dakota Red four-string maple/maple/alder AB-I 3x FDV with a three-band Glock. It is a fantastic praise instrument. I've never played one, but hear great things about all-Wenge necks. I'd like to compare an all-Wenge neck to a roasted ash neck, but I don't know if that will ever happen. My curiosity was aroused after reading that Sheldon has been enthusiastic about roasted ash necks recently. I think that a Z built to your specs would serve very well in a praise setting.
