Quick question (after I searched the web, of course). What are the basic care instructions for these necks. One instrument has Wenge neck and fingerboard. My other instrument has roasted ash neck and ebony fingerboard. Neither neck seems to have any coatings. Is any oiling or wax recommended? Is there a neck wood care guide out there somewhere? Thanks!

My dealer has helped me but I am wanting some further input from you all. So far I have picked:

Z3 5 string
-Wenge Neck/fretboard
-Neve preamp
-FDV and par/series toggles
-Body wood (undecided)

Is this a good profile for a neutral sound? Any suggestions?

I play a Dingwall at church. My Afterburner 2 is wenge neck, FDV pickups with rotary switch, and 3-band glockenklang. Its is a lovely tone and fits the even the most delicate workshop songs well. Hope this is helpful.

I have the JT with the Neve and it’s incredible. I think what you have picked out should work out very well. Something worth considering is getting a Ptone pickup. I know a lot of worship songs are recorded with the ol P bass.

Same specs as mine except I went with SFII pickups. Yes the Darkglass pre is more for metal with the high mid instead treble pot. I really like the sound of the Neve. For body wood I selected dual density ash.

I’d probably opt for a swamp ash or dual density body and you’d be all set.

also, bypassing the preamp and going passive would make the bass even more “neutral”

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some additional insight into Dingwall's pickup options for my 6 string passive ABZ build. I'm currently leaning towards the SF-IIs, but considering other options. I play a variety of genres and some solo pieces, and am looking for clarity and versatility as top priorities. I've heard the FD3s may be good for what I'm looking for, and am wondering how they pair with a passive tone control and 3x toggles, and how they compare to the FD3Ns in eq response. On my NG, I find the bridge solo sounds thin for my taste, so I'd be curious if a SF-II, FD3, FD3 or SF-II, FD3, SF-II config would be reasonable as well. Thanks in advance!

I got "the email" from JFB that my slot was coming up and I need to start planning options!

I have a really killer Walnut Burl X-Top reserved at the moment. It is a dark piece of wood though. Not sure if I want to add any type of transparent burst over it, keep it natural, or scrap it and go with a different top with some sort of color on it. I didnt really expect my slot to come up this quickly. Maybe JFB slid me in to an existing spot he had reserved. Anyway, here is the top I have on hold at the moment:

I think a transparent red or purple would look amazing over that that doesn’t get too dark towards the edges. Perhaps with a natural center burst. There are a few walnut Dingwall’s out there with colour over top. I’ve always dug them.

I’d think the SF2s may be a good fit for what you’re after. Everything else sounds on point. Ash body probably too.

I’d agree that the fd3s would fit that description. A SF2 in the neck would fatten it up but may not be necessary.

So I tried the DR Dragonskin multi scales on my AB I. My review: Nah. The B and E strings got "flubby" really quickly and the magic of the Dingwall wasn't there any longer. Back to official Dingwall nickels for me. They last a long time anyways.

I have not. Honestly, they were in my never bother to take a look list, but I think I was thinking of Kalium and putting them in the same box as Payson.

Right what Im saying is maybe JFB has his own deposits and spots in line and moved me in to one using my deposit to create another one further down the line.

i suspect this. and i think the long waits have resulted in a not insignificant number of cancellations.

here is my guess based on model:

ab1: wenge neck and ferarri yellow (like nolly getgood)

z3: some form of fancy top and purple burst- was that called ravenburst? (but purple to turquoise i see a lot of now).

super p/j: no idea here… but i am thinking people trying to recreate classic fenders with maybe 3 or 2 tone vintage burst over swamp ash.

They have so many options, I don’t think they would have a combination that would come out as the clear winner.

You shouldn’t. They are fantastic strings and by the sounds of it will give you nothing like the impression the dragon skins gave you. I use the stainless strings but the nickels and medium light nickels are fantastic too.
