Who's after that? I'm still able to live vicariously through the builds/deliveries of the rest of you. Once we run out of anticipated deliveries I'm in trouble. That's the point I'll give in and order my Z3-6 now that Sheldon makes that option.

Someone please have a bass on order that shows up sometime this spring? It's going to cost me a lot if nobody steps up to the plate!

I agree ! I sure hope that there are some basses in the pipeline. I need to recover emotionally from the wait and the anticipation.

Ken, where is that new beauty of yours? Tracking update please. In the spirit of Christmas, are they bringing it in by camel? :D

Well, I woke up at zero dark thirty and put the headphones on.

Bad news. It still sounds killer. Did notice that I need to raise the D G PU on the G side just a hair.

Cant wait for rehearsal Thursday to see how it sounds in the mix.

In case anyone's interested (as we wait for Santa to arrive at Ken's house), I had posted some questions to Sheldon regarding the bridge pup for the Super P. I am STILL trying to decide whether to add the J to my order. Here is what Sheldon shared on the Dingwall forum (you can infer my questions from the answer):

"Rotary switch is correct.

The pickups balance very well. We moved the bridge pickup quite a bit closer to the neck. Way more than I anticipated, but we just kept moving it until the tone fell into place. The solo P tone is not affected.,I'll post photos of the NAMM basses in early January."

I may not be able to wait for the pics due to to constraints on fixing my specs, but I am now tempted more than ever to just go for it.

I say go for it. Right now the Super PJ is the only thing speaking to my soul. Im in no hurry.

My only question is, and this probably applies only to those of us that have SJ's......

Does the bridge pick up give the Super P J type tones, or, something distinctly PJ'ish, for lack of a better term?

Ok well here is the thing, a friend of mine up to recently owned a first run of Super J's in a "Geddy" livery with the two skunk stripes on the back of the neck and a 12v preamp with two batteries in the back. When I got my Super P/J we tested the two basses back to back and the one thing that was immediately noticed it was how his Super J sounded so much more like a real Fender than my P/J and that when soloed my jazz bridge pickup sounded very different from his bridge pickup. I initially thought that it was down to pickup placement but I measured the distance to the bridge and it was the same on both basses but to this day we still don't know what's the reason to the difference in sound and we can only assume is down to different pickup construction maybe the magnets used are different or the windings are done differently one thing is for sure the 2 bridge pickups were two completely different items

After Zoomie's review I really want to try a Super P5.

It'll be a long time before I can afford one so I have a long time to think about it. I'd really like to try both a standard and reverse P.

Been wanting an ABZ for a long time ago but I think I might like the Super P better. The ultimate test would be how it compares to a Mike Lull P5 (which I've only heard, never played).

I think they wire the bridge pickup differently for the P/J than the J/J. I recently inquired with the shop about my P/J (converted J/J to P/J, early model with the skunk stripes) and we confirmed that my rear pickup was wired in series. In the J/J configuration, it would normally be wired in parallel.

Do it! Sorry I had to :) I'm sure the pickpup placement is tasteful and looks good. I've yet to see a bad looking Dingwall. I added the FD3 to my SP5 order with high hopes that it is going to be super awesome!

On a different note, I came across a good interview with Nolly, for those interested. Talks about his bass playing and where he'd like to see it go, among other things. Gave me some incite on him. I'd say that everything you need to know is right there in the post from Sheldon - he picked the location when they hit the sweet spot, and what more could you ask for!

(Can't wait to see the pics and hope it doesn't take too long for you to get it.)

PJ'ish unless you solo the bridge pickup (sez Captain Obvious ;)). The Super Fatty and FD-3 both sound good in the bridge position IMO. I'm not big on soloing the bridge pickup, but remember being pleasantly surprised when I did so with my (FD-3 equipped) AB-1. Boost the bass a tad and you get a killer mix-slicing tone. :)

The Sonic P landed at my door at 2:30 central time. I'm letting it get closer to room temperature before 'letting it out of the bag'. No outdoor photography here either, Zoomie. Our thermometer was sitting on zero this morning!

Sorry to be a tease, but I still haven't unzipped. ..

External inspection: nice LEVY'S bag with embroidered logo, seemingly identical in all respects to those that my fivers arrived in except for noticeably beefed-up carry handles. The additional bulk is a more comfortable fit in the hand and improves sustain. ;)

Again, I'm sorry to tease, but as well as letting the bass warm, I am waiting for less sun-glare before attempting indoor natural light photography. :rollno:
