How long did you have to wait for your custom after you were informed your bass was "in production"?

My wait from notification of start of production to completion was roughly about two months, even with communication hiccup. This wasn’t a complicated Z3X build - just a solid finish, dual density body with speedo dots and D at the 12th fret. No exotic top, super-custom work, or overly- involved finish. At that time they weren’t accepting off-book requests and no inquiries about it were permitted - pretty hard-core.

I got that bass about six months ago and the dealer quoted a 2-4 month wait for the actual build process back then. From what I understand, there are a few more builders at the shop working there now.

Still, there’s a lot of moving parts and plates spinning depending on the complexity of a build, so everyone’s individual experience will likely vary.

Both of these are still true. I think dealers actually get in very hot water for even asking off menu things right now. Stick to the build sheet options is the only acceptable thing.

My current one, which just went into production, was quoted 2-4 months time, so that also still holds true.

Looking for some leather strap recommendations! Aaaaaaand go!
Moody straps are the best I've ever found and I've bought half a dozen over the years. First time I saw one was quite a shock when I looked at the price and I left the store in disbelief, only to find myself going back a couple days later to buy it.
Doesn't add much to the price of the instrument if it's going on a Dingwall.

It is, you've heard of them?

When they did direct sales in the past were you stuck with MSRP or was there some haggle room?
Michael Lomax(I believe) the owner used to be a member here and has always been a stand up guy in all the interactions I’ve had with him.

I don’t know this as fact but I think he just got bored of spending the time on the internet and drifted away.

As for pricing, there is Zero haggle is my understanding. The price is the price. To haggle on a dingwall you are most likely buying used. lol.

Where is this located, do you have a link?

Also, there are no dealers near me, what's the best way to order a Dingwall? Just swallow the pill and hope the nearest dealer is willing to ship?

The majority of Dingwall owners on this forum got their custom Canadian instruments from John Fox Bass, followed by Fret Nation.

There isn’t any discount when ordering a custom direct - this is common practice when ordering custom bespoke items from any manufacturer. There also isn’t any haggling with a dealer when ordering custom from Dingwall - they work off a price sheet that has listed prices and options that can’t be lowered or changed. This is also a common practice with custom items.

After being unsatisfied with a lot of other straps I took to making my own…. It’s really satisfying if you can make the time.
Time is one thing I don’t seem to have to play with this stuff anymore despite wanting too.

It’s really fun to pull some inspiration for the instrument you are pairing them with or other things.

It's not public as far as I know. Your dealer has a copy.

For dealers, you don't HAVE to go to a local one as far as I know. It's encouraged to, but not mandated. Many folks go with JohnFoxBass and FretNation. I'm going with JFB for my current build.

I have been using GruvGear Solo Strap for the last few tours, but recently got a 4” ErgoStrap for my SJ. I like it so far. It’s very well padded and distributes the weight nicely
