Dingwall Owners Club

So far I've emailed a few dealers so guess nobody has the super fatty in a soapbar :(

Had a chance to checkout my pickup
All it said was G&B under the neck pickup ? No indication of it being fd3 -A or FD3?

Hi PeaveyPlayer - those are FD3N for sure - I know because I used to own your bass :) It's in my avatar as I haven't updated that picture in years.

G&B makes all the import Dingwall pickups. The EMG40-sized ones are the same as the newer rounded end ones - just the shell changed.

Noticed you are looking for SF pickups in the 40-sized shell - those were made, but are VERY rare. Played a Combustion a few years ago that had them. Highly doubt Dingwall will make them in that shell ever again, which is why you're finding no dealers that can provide them.

Thanks for the information! Its a sweet bass for sure!
And that's okay! I also noticed its routes under the guard for NG2 positioning :)

I got an email from Dingwall's [email protected] (Thanks Everrett) regarding cutting the string length at the factory:

The number of wraps around the post varies a little depending on what model of bass you have. I always use a setup ruler to measure where to cut the strings, but there are a couple easy visual guides to get you the same result.

Afterburners are set up with about 3/4 of a wrap around the post because of the shorter tuner. I measure 2" past the front of the tuner post (or at the end of the next tuning post) and clip the string there.

On all other custom shop models, I measure 3" (or one and a half tuners) past the front of the post. This will give you about 1-1/4 wraps around the post.

Yup - all the V4 Combustions were like that. But you likely also noticed additional routing to accomdoate moving the neck pickup towards the neck - was done to get more of a J-Bass vibe. THEN I made it a 3x for a while..... did a lot of mods/experimenting with it :)

WHOA...damn bro!! Congrats on the new bass!
Thanks A bunch!!

I’ve never really bonded with the supers in a way I’d like to for the music I play and my style of playing… until now!

I’m gonna have to make a choice here soon though as this was quite impulsive…. Or maybe my lovely wife will tell me to keep it for our 10 yr anniversary!! lol. Dingwall’s are like diamonds for men( and women)!!!

I know this is a LONG shot but if anyone hates the Neve pre and wants to sell or trade let me know! I have a 3x set of 4 string SFIIs, a 4 string P-Tone, a bunch of pres or cold hard cash 😀

Maybe I'll get lucky with a Christmas miracle

I have one of the first Z models with a Neve. Some of my standing remarks about this preamp include the word “pry” and the phrase “cold dead hands”! :D

I can't help you with the Neve, but I'd be interested in the SFII's. I have been thinking of trying a set in my DBird for a change.

Finally got me a NG3 and it's awesome. I've played the ready to plays before but damn do the banjo frets make such a playability difference. Well worth the wait and cost. Was thinking of series parallel switches but that seems like overkill now as it sounds really good. 6 way selector will be a fun install though.

Umm, WOW - what a small world - I recognize that JM with Aluminati neck! I just got an EGC Standard + I have an Aluminati neck on order for a Telecaster.
I did not think there would be a Venn diagram overlap with Dingwall basses and Aluminum neck guitars!
