If you are going for a custom Z, I would just ask for that color.

Many paint suppliers can do pints and quarts, or even smaller amounts. This would just be the color coats, after grain fillers, and primers. And before the clear coats. A few ounces.

It’s the labor and paint booth time that really adds up.

Nice to see the NGs being advertised with the new minimalist bridge on the DW site. Will need to upgrade or replace mine soon depending on when/if the bridge upgrade option will become available.

Plus, black hardware and the 6-string string retainers on 4 & 5 string models are great calls in my book. Overall, excellent upgrades!

NBD yesterday! My Z arrived from JFB. Spent some time with it last night and looking forward to rehearsal tonight. What an instrument! I now truly understand what people mean when they talk about "Dingwall Wenge necks." So smooth and easy to play. Those in queue for your first Z you will not be disappointed!

I actually ordered a P-Tone for the neck position. JFB recognized the build mistake and offered to swap the pickup for a P-Tone he had in the shop or allow me to purchase the extra pickup and have both. So I opted to have both to try out. My C5 has a P-Tone in the neck so I'm familiar with it. Learning what the SFII in the neck has to offer will be fun to compare and contrast.

John Fox was a pleasure to work with. Great guy, great conversations. Kept me in the loop on progress points and made sure I was informed during the journey. Definitely recommend JFB!

Already sold one of my basses, and I am selling two more. Hope this one is worth it!

Funny thing, I was talking to the seller, we are getting along great, and I give him my WhatsApp so he can send me more pictures. A minute later I receive a message from a fellow bassist I sold a Serek Midwestern last year. It’s the same dude, haha! I guess we have similar taste in basses!

Super exciting!

TI 344 JF will fit just fine on that Super P. Hopefully you’ve already got some broken in sets.

Selling all the “straight” basses usually comes right after the first Dingwall arrives.

My Fender Jazz was packed up in the same boxes the first Super pj arrived in, the same afternoon. Sold and shipped the same week.

Be sure to spend lots of time playing with the tone control. Mine has the hybrid tone, where the center detent is wide open tone. Turn it back towards the bridge for standard roll off, turn it towards the neck for a cool scoop. Since it’s just a half turn either way, it’s sensative.

Play around with some foam under the strings at the bridge or a gruv gear fret wrap at the nut…or both.

I remember reading somewhere that it’s based on which switch you have. 3X is PSP, and D-Roc is PPS (neck to bridge)… or I might be completely misremembering something and giving false information, haha. Waiting for someone to verify.

I asked Dingwall tech this question when I recently received my SJ5. If I recall correctly all are internally wired series except for the middle pick up on a 3X.

I don’t normally go for solid colours but I can only imagine how much hotter it is in person.

I agree. I took a bit of a leap of faith on a candy color thinking the same thing, "in person is probably even better" and IT IS. Last night I had rehearsal under some stage lights and it looked really good as shadows and light hit the body. Pretty stoked right now!

I think you are right. D-Roc switch was different than the 3x switch. You are saying PSP and Bassheart is saying SPS....hmmm

I have heard a lot of people say that the Neve preamp is "smooth" and "natural" or "organic" sounding. I think this is very spot on. When increasing/decreasing the bass or treble controls you definitely hear the change, but, it ramps up (or down) so nicely and "smoothly." Makes me think it is a shelving type EQ or the points have a wide Q or something. Not jarring at all. It "feels" like it is accentuating the pickups character and just making it "more" of whatever you are rolling in. If that makes sense.

Last night at rehearsal I was playing with adding and subtracting with the preamp. When I rolled the bass off there was still some low/low mid present but everything was tighter. This will be very helpful for people that play various venues and run into boomy rooms.

Combining the Neve with the onboard passive tone control is also a fantastic touch. In fact speaking of passive. On my Combustion 5 I found myself playing passive the majority of the time and rarely engaging the EMG preamp. On this Z its sort of the opposite. Dont get me wrong, the Z sounds great passive, but, I am equally happy with the Neve on as well. Last night I found myself playing the majority of the time with the preamp on (this is a departure for me because I am generally a 'passive' bass type of person).

As for the SFII in the neck position I need to get more reps in with it to come to a conclusion (on it vs. a P-Tone in the neck). I liked what I was hearing last night, but, the P-Tone has a special place in my heart and I am very familiar with it.
