Just to make sure, you have the VPF and VLE turned all the way counter-clockwise? I've seen people put those at noon thinking that was the neutral setting. I've never really like Markbass cabinets. They sound kinda boxy to me.

I like them mostly both around 9 o’clock. I agree with you for the markbass cab tone. It was better when I added my GK neo 115.

I could not get a tight sound without sounding thin. Otherwise, it was boomy. Lots of lows but without weight.

Agree with the VPF and VLE off. I run everything else at noon, except treble off or mostly off. I like Markbass cabs and run 2 210s and 2 112s. Also IMO a SushiBox pedal is a must, they add texture and a 3D kind of thing, plus breakup when you want it.

New Dingwall owner. 4 string NG3 in Celestial Blue Matte. Have had problems since it arrived last Tuesday. Couldn’t get the plug to seat completely in the input jack. Dingwall Tech advised me to remove the screws, slide the jack out, bend the tip contact slightly to make it easier to insert the plug.
I did and still had the problem. Finally figured out the jack mounting screws weren’t screwed in completely and that was probably problem when I received it. Plugged it in and played for a minute or so.
Took it to a gig last night, played 3 notes and it quit.
This morning I removed the jack again to check everything. Inserted the plug and all contact point were correct and engaged. Removed the control plate to insure all the wires from the jack were connected and they were.
Plugged it in and still nothing.
Calling Dingwall tomorrow. My guess would be a dead preamp.
Disappointed for now but heard Dingwall’s customer service is superb. We’ll know soon.

that sounds similar to the takeaways I’ve had from Mark bass gear. I hate to only offer the usual advice of sell it and get something different…. But that’s all I got man.

You shouldn’t have to work hard to find a good tone, especially with a dingwall.

For my tastes I’ve never bonded with a 15 until I tried the Mesa subway 15s. Anything from the subway line has been a winner for me, heads and cabs.

sounds like going back to GK would be a safe play.

I need some suggestions from dingwall’s and markbass’ owners please!

I had a band practice today. Playing with a new amp, a markbass amp. I got it two weeks ago. I am used to GK and ampeg amps. I struggled at finding a tone that I like out of my NG3. I had a markbass head and 2 separate 15 inches bass cabs.

Any setting suggestions?

I also play an NG3 and an older Markbass CMD combo (also with the old school face layout), 1x12".

I don't know what to tell you, so this is maximally unhelpful, but I have no issues with my sound. I like Markbass as a neutral, blank canvas sort of thing. For shaping, I use my pedalboard, which has both an Aguilar AG premap and an Xotic EP booster on it (plus a Broughton HPF/LPF). So there's definitely something going on before it hits the input. But I like the clean, naked sound of the cab as well.

Plus, ye olde cabinets were built like tanks... I dropped this thing off curbs and sidewalks more often than I care to admit. I'm just happy this box can't sue me (yet).

Straight without batteries. After that I installed the batteries. Now I get nothing with or without batteries. I think the Darkglass Preamp is dead.

The combustion body shape works with only very few angle jacks which is why I asked as it often pops the cable back out about a 1/16-1/8”.

I could be wrong on this but I believe you should have sound even with a dead preamp as passive bypasses the preamp. Maybe a lead wire or something. I’ve seen wires broken inside their sheild before.

Recommend putting some shrink wrap via heat gun or electrical tape etc around the metal bit in case it contacts the bass' body

By "looking at" do you mean a used one? If so it should be known what it has loaded?
If you're instead thinking of jumping into the queue, well, you'll have many months to think about it and listen to clips, over-analyze it, sleep on it, forget about it, re-analyze it, and come to different thinking each step of the way.
There's no "best", just "best for you", and only you can answer there. No one here knows your gigs, genres, what sound you're chasing, etc.

I thought perhaps I had a problem with the jack touching the sides of the body so I slid it out and tried, but still got nothing. They had me take photos of the control cavity today to check that everything was hooked up correctly but never got back to me.
I think I’ll insert a plug and check the tip and ground connections at various point in the circuit with a multimeter to see if the signal is getting through. I can check them both all the way to the 4 position switch.

I know but this has been a nightmare since last Wednesday. I want to use it at the gig on Friday but at this rate it’s not going to happen and if they decide to replace it, it’ll be at least another week. Hopefully we’ll figure it out before then.

Thanks for the heads-up. Yes and that’s sad but it’s the norm for most companies today. When I retired on March 1st, the company I worked for had 3 sales reps. They used to have 4.
Now 4 months later they’re down to one.

Dingwall hasn't downsized/laid off people. They're just a very tiny company, and only expand and hire with a lot of thought and planning. They're not going to instantly reply to everyone 24x7 unfortunately. And IMO owning any instrument means being able to spend some time troubleshooting when things go wrong, new or not. It super sucks having that happen - I had it happen with a couple very $$$$ USA Spectors and USA EBMMs, so I get it. But nothing is perfect and we gotta be flexible as musicians to deal with things as they come up
