They're pretty different basses. What is drawing you to both, and what is the driver behind having to choose one over the other?
For me, it's easy, and I'd go Z, and in fact did settle on Zs after 3 ABs. I still have, and play, the ABs, but Zs just tick more of the boxes for me personally.

@Selta let me borrow his Z for a few weeks, and while it was a spectacular instrument, I never really bonded with the neck. Later, on a gig he let me try one of his ABs and I immediately felt more at home on the neck. Granted it was just a quick demo as opposed to spending weeks with it like I did the Z, but at this point I'm confident that if I ever order a long scale, it will be an AB, probably an ABZ.

I'm just at a loss with them. If it was only that I can't get the gauges I want from anyone else, I'd have ditched them some time ago. I ordered these 3 sets in anticipation of when I'd need them, it ended up taking two months, and now I have my main bass sitting with 3 strings. They have not responded as of yet after my email yesterday.

Did you try talking to Payson about your preferred gauges?

OK, to recap, looking at an alternative to the Kalium sets I get for C standard tuning based on the chart that Sheldon created (they are sending me 3 .055's to replace the defective .053's bc the others they have are the same batch).

So I've been using .118-.090-.070-.053

In the meantime, I see Fret Nation has DR DDT Long Scale Sets that will fit that are either 50-110 or 55-115. Payson lists a C Std Set on their site that is 125-90-70-50, but to select it that type says Drop C, so not sure what is going on there. I guess I'll email them and maybe try the DR 115's.

Anyone have an experience purchasing from The Vibrato Bar in Canada? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a 6-string NG3 from them today but the price almost seems too good to be true especially to someone living in the states lol

Honestly, unless I missed something, their price seems pretty standard. Looks like a nice boutique facility though. I’d definitely check it out in person if I was proxy to it.

It seems most shops/distributors are $3000+ here in the states so their price is a steal by comparison. I was eyeing the Ducati white but that just sold yesterday and the matte gold is my second choice.

I see. I thought potentially with the higher CAD, shipping and duties it would be quite comparable.

I’m curious also what taxes you’d have to pay?

The prices otherwise are on par for a Canadian.

This is what I'm curious about. According to their Reverb store all guitars/basses are exempt from tariffs but their website says "import duties and taxes may apply." I pulled the trigger and I'll find out in a week or two!
